:mad:Got ripped off by the PO...empty box that was open at the post office! Oh, I wonder what happened???:thumbdn: friggin hope the Postman that did it gets killed by a 160lb pitbull..first time getting screwed..really sucks. Just so you guys know it can happen!!! The seller didnt insure it, it wasnt much..but it still hurts..and I dont want the Seller to feel responsible..he is a big member here, and I know that he didnt have anything to do with this.

Ohh..you can bet I'm filing a complaint..it is going to be a repeated thing with me..I am going to file several..to anyone that accepts them. I really would like some kind of reprimand to be handed down..its a long story, but alot of folk at this PO dropped the ball. They were aware that I had been robbed for over a week and didnt let me know. The supervisor told the delivery guy that they would take care of it, when he brought it to her attention...in other words, my mailman looked in his bin, and saw the package had been opened..and reported it..all the while I am sitting waiting for my package, never recieving a slip on my door or anything. WTF!!! Complete disregard for people property IMO! F-ing loosers...

Seems to me the employee would be easily found and fired. Why wouldn't the person who stole the knife just dispose of the empty box?
Sorry this happened to you.

It's highly unikely that somebody stole your low value item. The extremely few people who work there that would steal the mail almost always go for cash in greeting cards, retail gift cards, or credit cards. The odds of your parcel being the one that bucks the well-known trends are very small.

Mail, including parcels, is processed almost entirely by machine. No individual piece of mail is ever looked at more than momentarily by any person until it gets to your letter carrier - and it sounds like he's the guy that reported the empty parcel. It is most likely that one of the machines busted the box open and your item is sitting in a bin of loose items. If you have ever seen the machines that process parcels you would change your fantasy of a 160 pound pitbull delivering the violent death it deserves. Those machines pick up and dump containers of parcels weighing tons like you and I pour cream into a cup of coffee.

Firstly bro let me say I feel for you since the same thing has happened to me as well.

Filled out the complain, contacted seller and so on 6 months still no insurance money given.

With all due respect I have to disagree with the above poster. I'm not sure exactly how the postal system works, but I have worked at UPS and fedex. At one I was shipper and at the other I was Security.

At both instances I have found people had stolen property and there are many ways to get the property out of the warehouse without a problem. Minimal lighting, doors not alarmed, parking lot close by, No Cameras. The detterent just was not present in order to stop people from stealing. There is only one individual working per truck or trailer and the items are sent on a conveyor belt.

I'm not saying someone stole it, but imo it is a possibility. Just take a look at your box for proof. My box was cut cleanly with a knife and someone stole my knife and then re taped the box. I doubt a machine did that.

take care and I hope some compensation can be had.

Sorry to hear that gene, bummer for sure. I hope you get some satisfaction out of the whole ordeal........

I'm going to chime in here. I'm the seller. The package wasn't one knife. It was 11 knives and 4 firesteels. They were in a priority box, tightly padded on all sides with newspaper. The flap was sealed by the standard adhesive and added shipping tape. It's highly unlikely it came open on it's own.

The DC# tracking states that they tried to deliver the package on 4-28 and left a slip. gunknifenut says there wasn't a slip, and I believe him more than the the PO's website. This means that the package was intact on 4-28, at which point it was taken back to the PO. A re-attempt at delivery should have been automatic after a few days, or at least a second (or first in this case) notice left. This didn't happen.

If you ship it, INSURE IT!!!! Can't say it enough folks :( The risks far outweigh the $4 or $5 for the insurance. I have lost two items during shipment and both times the PO paid off because of the insurance. Buy the insurance, save the reciepts, and keep money order #s till the deal is done on both ends. Everyone knows theives are everywhere. Stop acting like they won't target YOU. They read those boxes almost as fast as machines and they can see the uninsured from the insured too. They also know that the PO will not react too aggressive about investigating something the PO is not going to have to pay out for.

It's funny. I usually insure anything over $50. I guess I just forgot it this time . Anyway, gunknifenut wants to wait and see if the knives can be located. If not, he'll be getting a refund from me.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but with a organization as large as the USPS there is bound to be some bad apples.

I hope Esav will chime in on this.

Wow that sucks! Gunknifenut my condolences bro. Kiahs it's very cool of you to take responsibility and offer the refund. Anything can happen with the USPS.....

Anything can happen with the USPS.....
... but rarely does.

No way I can tell from the information here alone, but the contents may have been taken by someone in the delivering post office. This is a case where the Postal Inspectors should be looking for the thief when a package is found to be rifled in house. It shouldn't be hard to find who was on the route the day it came in, and when he knew the contents were missing.

We would have called the Inspectors in on it right away, and the local office may have, but isn't saying anything until they have some kind of results. I suggest going to the USPS website and contacting the Postal Inspectors directly. www.usps.com

Something stolen by an employee of the USPS, that would never happen. (insert appropriate emoticon ---->here<------)

I would insert

No, you don't know how the Postal Service works. In my orientation the first week I worked there, we were constantly reminded of the Inspectors' galleries overhead, where they could be watching and filming anyone on the work floor stealing.

As a supervisor and manager, I got coopted to work with Inspectors following up on theft and preparing termination and prosecution for the thieves. There is no deterrent for people stupid enough to waste a potentially valuable career and pension for a few bucks worth of loot. But catch them? Yes, as frequently as necessary.

Here' s what can be done to help minimalize potential tampering and theft- keep in contact with each other thruout the entire transaction til completed. If you do not received package nor notice attempt in the agreed shipping method timeline (i.e. Priority 2/3 days), go to the P.O. and make an inquiry! There is a good chance that the package is sitting there. And that the carrier did not leave a notice. Or in the unlikely event that the notice was blown away into the wind (yeah right). The longer the package sits there, it is more likely/ possible for it to be tampered with. You just can' t let it float around. I have had personal experience with these incidences where I have watched from behind window curtains, the carrier walk up to my mailbox and NOT leave an attempt delivery notice with the rest of the mail. Nor did he/ she knock nor ring the doorbell! So yes, I call pure B.S. on some the carriers. Luckily I went to the P.O. the same day. And made an inquiry. The packages were left there for pickup, usually on the following day.

Wishing death on someone because you speculate he/she stole your knife is very asinine.

Asinine:jerkit:...I guess that you work for the post office. I was just talking Sh*t..I am pissed because I wanted the items in the package that was cut open and robbed...taking a comment made on a forum about good or bad experiences, that is in the "bad" column..verbatum...well...thats kinda asinine. I was robbed and am pissed about it..sorry if I offended you. Just to be clear..In my opinion, stealing is a capitol offense..If I catch you taking my stuff..well, you better run faster than me..thats all I'll say.
First of all, I dont work for the PO or have I ever..but I did happen to work for a short time in Data..or local area networking..and in 1998..I worked in dozens of MA post offices accross the state..I walked through all those mysterious little tunnels in the sky...you know..with the gun port looking windows..there were no cameras...just dark 5 ft tall hallways with windows. The fact that there are no cameras in Post offices is the issue in my mind. put them in..this type of crap would stop. If they are there..then why did the supervisor not take care of this in house. Because, no matter what anyones opinion is on the likelyhood of someone being robbed by the PO is...it doesnt matter..I WAS!
So, I told you guys I was robbed..take it for what its worth. If you want to believe that it doesnt happen..well, thats your right IMO. Seems to me, that people do crappy stuff to each other all the time..why should an employee of the USPS be any different. Gene

thanks for chiming in Bro...you didnt have to do that. I want you to know that stuff happens and you arent responsible..period. I know that a machine didnt take 11 knives and 2 firesteels..and so do you..some asshat did it, and he drives a funy little white van.
