Pocket Clip VS No Pocket Clip

Used to keep it clipped in my right front pocket. Got snagged at work one day on a counter and came out of my pocket, hit the ceramic tile, opened on the first bounce, and left a nice chip right in the belly of my BM710 that still won't fully come out.

Sits in an on belt pouch now, and haven't had any problems. I utterly despise having anything shaped like that loose in my pocket, though. Tends to turn sideways and feel awkward. Though I don't concern myself with having my knife "tactically" accessible.

Clipped for me. Any knife I EDC is right where I need it to be. I carry too much other stuff in my pockets to have to dig for my knife. I do however, constantly check my pocket clips for tension, and to make sure they're mounted securely.

I carry ONLY a knife in my right front pocket so clipless for me. The only knife with a clip left on is my Mnandi because I think it improves the grip shape. I carry it in a slip case.

I carry my SS sypderco native clipless in my back pocket behind my wallet. My front two pockets are always full of stuff so i can never afford to keep a knife clipped there blocking me from taking out my phone or other items.

I always carry a 3-4 inch locking folder clipped to my right pocket, and a slippy sits in the pocket. I haven't had problems losing either.

The wear on the pocket can be bad. I love my BM520, but those treads are absolute jean destroyers. In a suit or slacks I either carry a slipjoint or my BM855 or Kershaw Sapphire, both of which are smallish and have smooth scales.

I also carry a LM Kick clipped to my back pocket, and it's worn a nice hole right where the top rides on my jeans.

Overall, the clips keep me from having bulging pockets or necessitating a batman-style utility belt.

I responded to this thread almost a year ago and at that time I was all for pocket clips. Well, nothing has changed. I still say, pocket clips all the way!:D:thumbup::D

I used to really like the idea of a knife without pocket clips. I just thought the clips too away from how a knife looked and from the comfort so I didnt buy a knife with one. Sadly I found I kept losing my knives that were in my pocket (slid out when I sat down). I tried a pocket clip and I will never go back.

Both, at the same time! :)

Larger one clipped to the pocket while the small (sub 2") floats around in the pocket. I am good about not putting any coins or similar items in the same pocket as the small knife so I don't have to worry about any associated problems.

Right now the combo for me is a BM Ares clipped to my left front pocket with a BM auto Benchmite floating around in the bottom of my right front pocket.

Clips seem to be an aid when gripping the knife and present a convenient mode of carry. Although I usually clip to the waistband (a bit more unobtrusive than front pocket carry) since here in NYC some LEO's are a little paranoid if they spot a clip in the front pocket.

I prefer to carry my knife in a belt pouch or sheath.

Clips have too many negative aspects in my opinion....

*Scratches furniture, vehicles, etc...
*Damages clothing.
*Advertises that I'm carrying a knife.
*Often too loose and allows the knife to fall out of the pocket.
*Allows the knife to get scratched by other items in the pocket.
*Takes up too much pocket space.
*Allows dirt and lint to build up in the knife.
*Often makes a knife uncomfortable to use for heavy or extended cutting.
*Rarely improves upon the knife's appearance.

I prefer clips on my folders. They keep the knife accessible and in one place rather than fumbling with other pocket junk when its needed and help prevent loss.

I prefer a clip for just about all my knives. I'm thinking of modding the few that don't have a clip.

I seldom use the pocket clip on the two folding knives I own that came with them. I was carrying knives in my pocket for 30 years before these clips were first used. My two "turn me loose knives" are a Spyderco Endura and a 4" Cold Steel Voyager, both of which have plastic clips molded in with the handles. Only if I was in imminent danger would I use the clips, though, and then I'd tuck my knife into my waistband with the clip between my belt and my waistband. That way it's mostly out of sight, but still fairly easy to grasp. (My primary defensive weapon is a pistol, though.) I think it's foolish to carry a folding knife exposed by clipping it onto your pocket in many political climates. Several months ago I was in the emergency room and the physician caring for me seemed surprised when I "made" the folding knife he carried clipped to his pocket. I was glad to see he was in touch with reality enough to carry a knife, though, whether as a tool or as a potential weapon. In other places carrying one exposed like that can get you in a world of hurt. For some reason, a number people seem unable to grasp this concept.
