Pocket clips; yes or no?

It seems to me the majority of forum users prefer to use the pocket clips on their folders, Me I don't, I like them in the bottom of my pocket, they feel safe and secure there, I find the clip tends to get in the way when I have my hands in my pockets. Anyway in New Zealand knife crime/violence is on the rise, so an obviously visible clip can tend to attract the unwanted attention of the law. I'd like to here you views,... Kris

I don't want them in the bottom of my pockets because they feel weird, are hard to get and usually "print".

In fact, I don't keep anything whatsoever in my pants pockets. :o Apart from a clipped knife, that is.

Both. I prefer clips on modern one handed folders, traditional knives without. When I need a one handed knife I need it accessible quickly and easily without having to fish around in the bottom of my pocket for my knife. On the other hand, if I have time to open my knife with two hands, I have no problem fishing around for it, hence no clips on traditional knives.

I despise the feel of pocket clips on the handle, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. That said, I do like that clipping knife to the pocket frees up some room at the bottom. I always carry a stockman in my pocket, and that combined with the many other items I EDC means that if I want to pack a one-handed opener, it needs to be clipped in.

I have one folder and it's got a clip... which I prefer for because I don't like the way the "lay" at the bottom of my pocket... that and it tends to bunch up with my wad of keys makes for lots of fumbling when trying to get to my knife, or a fallen knife when going for my keys...

Depends on the knife. I like clips on most of my modern folders, certainly not on traditionals. I might make an exception with a larger bladed SAK though.

Paper money and clip or traditional folder in the RF pocket, coins and keys in the LF pocket. I don't have a preference as to clipped or not.

I like the concept of pocket clips, I just feel that about 90% are, at best, mediocre; either suffering from poor retention, excessive movement that may or may not be fixed by loctite, hindering ergonomics, poor placement on the knife, or simply grabbing things other than my pocket with regularity. My Para 2 is a great knife, but I mostly carry it in the pocket of my scrubs at work and I became so disgusted with the pocket clip that I just removed it. I want to like pocket clips, I really do, but on many folders it seems like they're added almost as an afterthought and that bugs me.

I don't use them for pocket carry but I don't take them off, either. If the knife comes with a clip, I just leave it on and ignore it. I do use them on the folders that get carried IWB.

As far as printing goes, most of my pants have a small inside pocket in the bottom of the RFP. That's where my folders go. They stand up, are easy to reach, and they don't show on the outer material. Even my ZT550 works well that way. If the pants don't have that inside pocket, my wife can easily construct one using a pair of pants that does have one as a pattern. Takes 20 minutes to cut and sew in now that she's done a couple.

In pocket only for me. I don't like how clips tear up my jeans, and how they tend to catch on stuff you walk too close to.

I can understand your not wanting to carry clipped to pocket with the problems in your neck of the woods. That is a legitimate reason in my book. I personally use them alot. Sometimes I will drop it in the pocket, but usually just clipped to the side of my pants. I dislike the larger folders that I own laying in the bottom of my RFP. It is very uncomfortable to walk around with some or to bend over or sit down and drive to me, when laying at the bottom of my pocket.

I like to know exactly where my pocket knife is - clipped to my pocket. I don't like to have to root around in my pocket to look for it. I like to know exactly where it is.

Also - I carry my keys in the same pocket as my knife normally. Clipping it to the pocket keeps them from rattling together too much.

Like mine clipped to pocket and easy to get to in a hurry if need be and also I don't have to worry about holes in my Slacks or Jeans from the Knife wearing out the Fabric. Clip is a win-win situation for me in more ways than one and I don't think I could go back to pocket carry with no Clip.!*

Depends on the knife, what I may be doing or what type of clothes I'm wearing. Don't use clips as much as I used to but they do come in very handy at times. As far as traditional knives go I don't want of those clipped.

Well, I'm sure I'll be classed as "oldschool". But my EDC is a Case Mako in traditional leather on my belt. Never understood knife clips.

I am an anti- pocket clip person. To each his own but I can't stand how it feels in my hand.

Inside the pocket carry is too loose and has no sense of consistency in deployment. Belt sheaths and ugly, uncomfortable, and slowly deployable. Pocket clips are the best way to go. Only an improperly designed clip would feel weird in the hand anyway.

I would not like a folder flopping around freely in my pocket. It needs to be clipped for easier access. I'm always on the move at work and can't be troubled to keep tinkering with an uncomfortable. Hunk of steel in a pocket. We usually don't have much need to stand around with our hands in our pockets when there is tons of work to be done. ;)
