Pocket clips; yes or no?

I like the pocket clip.

Won't have a folder without one, in fact (SAK excluded for obvious reasons, yet I don't own one).

It's just that I like knowing where my knife is, and knowing it will be *right there* all the time. Also frees up pocket space.

Also, around here everyone has a knife. Girls, guys, you name it. I'd bet a good 1/2 of the people I see have a larger clip knife.

More safe and secure than a clipped knife? I don't see the logic in that unless your pocket clip is completely warped and loose. What knife do you carry?

A knife with a clip really gets in the way noticeably more than the same knife without the clip? What knife do you carry that removing the clip makes that much of a difference? And why do you have your hands in your pockets?

I think you need to stop worrying and do what feels right for you. What is the point of asking this question on the forums? Are you expecting someone to persuade you to use pocket clips? Is there a problem you are having? I just don't see what you're trying to accomplish with this thread.

I have quite a few with clips that have never been employed. Several cities have visible knife restrictions and they consider the clip to be an exposed knife.

Man you should have made this a poll so we could more easily see the results. My preference is like many others here if its a one handed modern folder I prefer the clip if its a slipjoint I will just throw it in my pocket.

I always carry a knife inside my pocket. Maybe it is something I have gotten used to, or maybe it just never really bothered me. Even if I am being highly active, it still doesn't bother me having a bulky knife in my pocket. I have been carrying the 2012 traditional forum knife since I got it, and it is a pretty chunky traditional folder (as an example).

That said, I like to carry clipped knives as well, just not with 100% frequency.

What I like most about traditional knife designs is the multi-blade aspect. I can carry one knife, yet I have two, three, or four blades that I can use for different things. Knives with pocket clips generally don't have multiple blades (some do, but they are not to my taste).

I am an anti- pocket clip person. To each his own but I can't stand how it feels in my hand.

Not anti, but I don't like the feel in my hand as well.
However, having them clip in pocket has obvious advantage, but the feel in the hand is negative.

Solution: take off clips, put in small inside pocket (bought slacks that have this, left & right).

No. On the relatively rare occasions I've worn a folder clipped to my pocket, I invariably dropped, and sometimes lost it completely in the course of a day's work. I've never misplaced any knife that was either fully inside my pocket or in a belt pouch, nor have I ever had any problem "deploying" them quickly.

I carry all my knives on my belt. An Izula II, an Emerson fixed karambit and an Pohl Force Alpha Two in a pouch. So no Clips needed.

I had a Strider CC PT model, which has no clip available. I sold it quickly. I always use a clip, but then, it's quite legal here.

Dude, you need to lighten up!..., I carry a Kershaw Skyline in the pocket of my cargo pants, It sits in the bottom of my pocket just fine with no clip and doesn't 'print' in anyway. Its the only thing I carry in that pocket,
I can assure you that I have no self image issues what so ever, If I want to put my hands in my pockets, I'll do just that, why? because I can.
I asked this question because this is the forum for general knife discussion, is it not, and a question about pocket clips is one for general discussion, is it not?
By the look of the dozens of positive replies to my OP, I think I've accomplished what I set out to do,...Create some General Knife Discussion!
My only problem I have is when people make pointless, negative and verging on insulting comments to perfectly legitimate posts, and by the looks of it your the odd man out in this thread,...

It seems to me the majority of forum users prefer to use the pocket clips on their folders, Me I don't, I like them in the bottom of my pocket, they feel safe and secure there, I find the clip tends to get in the way when I have my hands in my pockets. Anyway in New Zealand knife crime/violence is on the rise, so an obviously visible clip can tend to attract the unwanted attention of the law. I'd like to here you views,... Kris

Pocket clips yes. My only gripe about pocket clips is that I want them black. I feel no need to advertise that I'm carrying.

I discovered pocket clips at least 20 years ago and I have carried knives with pocket clips ever since. I will not buy or carry a knife without a pocket clip.

Mine are either clipped to the pocket or carried in a backpack. I really don't want to deal with yet another object moving around in the upper-inner thigh region.

The only exception is when I wear black dress pants: I won't have anything clipped to the pocket unless it's a deep carry black clip.

I like the pocket clip because it makes it easier to get to my knife when I need it. For a while, I carried my primary blade clipped to my pocket and kept a SAK sitting freely at the bottom of my pocket. With my keys and wallet also sharing that pocket, sometimes it would be a hassle to get to the SAK. Now, I've got one of these things on it, and it makes an appreciable difference.

Yes yes yes yes and yes
I always feel stupid when i lose the clips for my favourite knives so i can not wear them on pocketless pants

Yeah, I wish more knifemakers would offer black clips. Deep carry is also an important feature

Thats pretty awesome, where'd you get it ?

Pocket clip is a preferred but if the knife is small and light, I wouldn't mind just throwing it in the pocket. If it is larger, it gets kind of annoying.

I like clips on one hand opening style knives. I wouldn't want one on my super tinker. I find that on one hand opening knives they are a huge benefit to personal organization. Sometimes I just don't want to wear cargo pants. The clip also saves me room and makes the knife carry more comfortably for me. Instead of having the knife and other items bunch together the clip holds it in place and other items can be arranged around it.

For modern style knives, I always use the pocket clip. My reasons are a) They're a lot more secure than a folder hanging loose in the bottom of my pocket (I've lost an SAK that way), b) They're more readily accessible - i.e. They're always in the same, accessible place every time I reach for them and I don't have to go digging around for them, and (maybe most importantly) c) Because the law of this here country specifically forbids any kind of concealed weapon carry - having an exposed pocket clip is kind of a technicality, the notion being that, if the pocket clip is exposed, the knife is showing and therefore not 'concealed'.

I'm not even sure if this last one is absolutely necessary, but it doesn't hurt to be safe. I've had officers notice my pocket knife before, but none of them has had a problem with it so far.

For traditional style knives, I generally don't have the choice to carry them with a pocket clip (and honestly, a pocket clip would muck-up the looks/ design of a nice slipjoint).

Its complicated for me and I'm really torn between a clip and no clip.

On one hand I love the feel of a knife with no clip and love the look of no clip.

But on the other hand I hate carrying a knife in a pouch on my hip or in the bottom of the pocket.

so I need a clip for in waste carry or pocket carry, but don't necessarily like them if that makes sense :)
