Pocket Clips?

I don't remove clips and have never bothered with an aftermarket clip either. Maybe it's just luck, but they have never been an issue for me with ergonomics or function. I have had to bend a couple to get the retention where I wanted it, but that's it.

I have been EDCing this W/H for over 20 years.View attachment 2230252
I like William Henry's Clip Case solution also. I carried a Tom Brown Quest for a dozen years in a clip case, until a Pro-Tech Malibu kicked it out of my pocket. If a pocket knife is over approximately 4" closed, or 4 oz., I don't want it rattling around in my pocket, and a clip is a suitable solution for me.

The knife in the picture is a Tom Brown Quest to which I added a clip. If I used the leather clip case inside my shirt, it got all soggy in the summertime.View attachment 2230710View attachment 2230709View attachment 2230708View attachment 2230707

I liked it better when you didn't have to wear seat belts. But then the politicians knew better. They like telling us what to do. I wear the seatbelt because it's the law. If it wasn't the law I wouldn't be wearing it.

Vlade: I’m 73 years old, so I remember driving before most cars had seatbelts. As a young buck, I had a new 1968 Plymouth Road Runner, which I kept bright and shiny, interior too. All vinyl well coated with Armor-All. One day I took a hard left, at speed. All of a sudden , I was sitting on the passenger side of the bench seat, with my hands still on the steering wheel, as I powering thru the turn. I thankfully recovered fast and no harm was done. But from that day on, I started to wear my seat belt ( no shoulder belts in those days ), JUST TO KEEP ME FIXED IN THE DRIVER’ S SEAT!

Shortly thereafter , I helped to found my home town’s first volunteer ambulance corps. Before that, the police just ran what amounted to a “ scoop and run” meat wagon ambulance service. I was one of the first National Registry EMTs in my state. Our small sized town is ultra urban, with 5 major interstates intersecting and even local traffic is “ city pack”.

Again , most cars didn’t have seat belts in those days. When you had a three car highway accident, on a wet Saturday night , you were calling for 3-5 extra ambulances , as soon as u arrived on-scene and did a quick triage. The crashes drove steering wheels into chests, people were thrown around in the cars, bouncing off sharp protrusions ,metal dash boards, and thru windshields. The result was multiple horror , war level injuries and death. Believe me, the 1968 Highway Safety Act and it’s various stricter amendments, mandating seat & shoulder belts, breakaway steering wheels, crumple zones, padded interiors , along with subsequent State legislation mandating the wearing of seatbelts, probably have saved millions of people from life altering injuries and deaths. Many kids , who would have otherwise grown up poorer and without one or both parents, were spared that awful outcome. So , “Big Brother” is not always the enemy. Same with food purity and the FDA, vaccines and the NIOH, the Railroad Safety Act ( albeit the train / plane operators have successfully held up many safety improvements in the USA, that are standard in Europe ), OSHA, etc.

Have you ever noticed that it’s the super Free Market Vulture Capitalist Car companies, who fight the passage of every auto safety requirement as unnecessary costs, a loss of “ personal freedom” and “ choice” ( helmet laws ) as the work of “ Nanny State Socialists”. Then, if they loose, they add ridiculous mark-ups to newly required, inexpensive safety improvements and then , in the ultimate irony, fill their media adds with glowing commentary about how their new safety systems make their vehicle the best in the market and the best to safeguard ur family. Same with mandated MPG standards. Corporate greed and BS at its worst.

I am forever mystified by why so many conservatives buy into these lies. Do you have any idea of the cost to taxpayers and employers of a worker/ passenger/ child killed, crippled or fully/ partially orphaned in an accident that could have been mitigated by GOVERNMENT MANDATED , safety standards. Social Security & Workers’ Compensation Insurance rates are negatively influenced. Insurance premiums to customers remain too high. Heath instance rates are negatively impacted, life insurance rates stay too high, Car Insurance rates sky rocket. Personal bankruptcy cases rise because people in debt or unable to work to pay bills, the list continues. This personal choice, loss of freedom , makes products overly expensive propaganda is just a corporate” Big Lie” strategy.

I only remove pocket clips if they mess up the knife handle's ergonomics to the point where there's a benefit to removing it versus keeping it for clipping into pockets. I have enough knives that if I don't like the ergonomics I'm not going to use it a lot and probably end up giving it away, so removing the pocket clip might salvage a folder for use. I'm used to carrying knives loose in pockets, sheathed, in pouches, on paracord loops, or using pocket clips so it's a case by Case thing.

I ordered an MX Gear deep carry titanium clip. It should be here by the end of the week. I decided I didn’t like the Native 5 floating free in my pocket.

When I do wear my seatbelt (most of the time now, just to shut that stupid chiming noise off), I only use the lap portion. Never been pulled over for it. Even if you didn’t have it on, you can just say “it’s natural for me to take it off when I turn off the ignition”, or something like that….
Maybe it depends on what state you live in… here in MA it’s the law, but I’ve never heard of anyone being pulled over for JUST a seatbelt violation.

As far as pocket clips go, I usually like deep carry. Lynch and MXG make great products. The only pocket clip I really like that is Not deep carry is Hinderer’s clip. It works really well, and for some reason the aftermarket clips for those are ridiculously expensive.
Spyderco knives are awesome, but their clips/hardware, not so much.

I thought I was upset when I lost my ZT 0620CF in M390 for the same reason! Not a proto!
Damn! And I thought I was upset when I lost one of my 0801s way back…not on a seatbelt, but it’s not nearly as rare as the 0620s…
To the people who found our knives (and whoever got my swedged spear Eklipse in the mail 5 years ago 🤬), I wonder if they even have a clue as to what they found…??? (Money-wise) I’m gonna guess NO, which somehow makes it even more sad

The worst part is I realized how I lost it shortly after I did, and I had no way to get it back. I used to work at Home Depot and I was tossing some damaged insulation in the trash. My 0620CF got clipped onto the packaging of the insulation as I was tossing it into the trash compactor (because I brushed the insulation past my pocket as it went into the trash). The container that was full of trash was emptied just a couple hours later, so I knew I had to kiss that one goodbye. It was salt in the wound to find out just a few months later that they discontinued the M390 variants, which made their value shoot up in price. Such is life!

Overall, I prefer a belt pouch over a pocket-clip as it frees up my pockets for other things like my cell-phone and my Ruger LCP.

But I do keep a clip on some of my knives, like my Spyderco Pacific Salt and my Spyderco Rock Jumper as I sometimes carry those when wearing swimming trunks or running shorts or sweat pants (where a belt and pouch are not possible).

I’ll wrap this up and show off the new MX Gear titanium deep carry clip I got to replace the original Spyderco clip.IMG_0292.jpegIMG_0295.jpegIMG_0296.jpegIMG_0302.jpeg
