Police Model?

If you are
Bad news. Those are all gen 2. The first generation had slab sides (edges not chamfered) and a shorter lockbar (release is farther forward on the handle). Zoom in on my picture and you can see the differences. The lanyard hole has come and gone at apparently random times throughout the production history, the four way clip is a relatively recent addition - maybe five or six years ago at most. The Boye dent is older, added at about the same time as the switch from ATS-55 to VG-10.

Edit to add: I need to hit Sal up for bigger SpyderPacs. My Police collection doesn't all fit anymore.

If you are ever interested in selling the Police 4 K390 let me know! I will definitely be interested. Nice collection.

Hello there. Could someone pleasse tell me something about this knife? Reading your precius previous post I think this is a 2ndGen but the lak of the steel indication takes me some doubts.

Thanks in advance.

Second generation, but early, before the steel was marked. The blade steel is Gingami-1. I've never been able to nail down a date for when the second generation started, but it was between 1986 and 1991.

Edit to add: If you zoom in on my first picture, you can see that the center knife has no steel mark. It's like yours, but serrated.

It took me almost 4 years since I 1st joined this thread but I finally did acquire a Gen 1 Police which I mentioned previously in the Recent Spyderco Acquisitions thread:

It's a Gen 1 S/S SE Spyderco Police "PIG" (Pride, Integrity & Guts) variation that is very hard to find in decent condition for a "reasonable price" these days:

Now, I'm on the "look out" for a PE version of the PIG to pair with it.

And here's a current pic of my 9 model Police collection which pales in comparison with yablnowitz's Police collection but it's all I've got. 🤷‍♂️

Took me years to assemble it.

So, in addition to a PE Gen 1 PIG, I'm also looking for a Gen 2 PS No Bug variation to complete that 3 knife set. ;)

For a "collector," the search never ends. LOL! 🤷‍♂️

This is one old thread that I'm glad did resurface. yablanowitz yablanowitz and sgt1372 sgt1372 , your collections are AMAZING – thank you for sharing!

I really got into Spyderco knives in 2023-24, after just an occasional purchase over the years. I like the Police 4, but I prefer the older style SS Police models much more – they are so sleek looking, and so thin that they are easy to carry even for being fairly long. I bought one of the current all stainless Police SE knives, and I plan to buy a PE version also. Sal Glesser Sal Glesser , if you decide to make the older style Police model with black G-10 slabs (keeping the knife fairly thin), I will be all over those (I need a drooling smiley 😄). Great knives! 👍👍

I think they should go back to the pig slogan on the SS models. Just curious at nearly 6 oz do these stainless police knives feel heavy in pocket, like would they flop around a lot in a pair of lighter weight shorts? I had an 8 oz knife that was pretty bad for that, and now think I'm spoiled with my 3oz linerless Spydercos that truly are feathers for their size.

Since I mever wear shorts, much less lighter weight ones, I can't answer your question honestly. I will say I carry one of my titanium Police more often than the stainless ones just to save a bit of weight, but I don't really notice much difference day to day.

I wear lightweight ripstop nylon convertible pants & the weight of the Police (or any other knife of similar wt) rests securely in my pocket & does not flop or move around.

i've been looking at a TI Police that's been sitting on EB for awhile. I think the seller is asking too much for it. He's accepting offers but I havent made 1 because i really don't want it all that much. 🤷
