Hey everyone, I have been doing a little research about the best survival knives. I know there is a lot of different opinion about these, but I wanted to make my own list for 2014 and get some feedback from the rest. I mixed in some the “every day” knives along with some of the pricier ones.

1. Ontario ASEK-Aircrew TM Survival Knife
2. Ka-Bar USMC Utility Knife
3. SOG Seal Team
4. KA-BAR Becker BK2 Companion Fixed Blade Knife
5. Gerber 22-01626 LMF II Green Infantry Knife and Nylon Sheath
6. Cold Steel SRK Kraton Handle Concealex Sheath (Survival Rescue Knife)
7. Buck 119BR Special Fixed Blade Knife
8. Gerber Bear Grylls Scout
9. Medford Knife and Tool NAV-H
10. Other: Please suggest a knife, the suggested knife that is most common will be considered.

These pages will have most of the knives on my list.

why no esee? esee 5 is by far the best survival knife ever made

I KNEW ESEE would have come up, but I didnt think it was going to be within 1 minute of the post! That one has strong consideration!

Can you vote for "other"

I'm a big fan of the GSO 4.1. I'm sure the bigger models are great as well.

OP, you know a poll is a fail when Other is one of the strongest answers. It might not be that you picked the wrong answers.... maybe you were asking the wrong question?

I figured there would be a lot of "other" and I am wanting to get some ideas from other people - so it works out for that purpose. There will still be a second!!!

What do you think AJUSTICE?

The only beefy fixed blade I could ever recommend is the Cold Steel Bushman. The only downside to it is that the blade has kind of poor edge retention, but it was hardened for toughness. Couple it with an ax and machete (a smaller knife could not hurt to throw in) and you have a decent set of blades to handle anything.

And no, I don't buy into the whole "one blade to do everything" malarkey. There are so many types of knives and blades because there isn't a "do everything". There are a few "do many" blades, but no master or even jack of all trades.

Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter. Coupled with an Exotac Fire Rod I would go to battle and never look back. Becker would be my second choice.

Something with a full tang, good grind, decent steel and good build. everything else is personal preference .... (other)

Where is the Survive! Knives GSO series?
CPM-3V steel, great comfort and a better sheath.

Maybe if you told us what a "survival knife" is (other than an empty, meaningless marketing term), you would get more answers. Just a suggestion.

IMO the Survive GSO knives are the best out there in "super steel" category knives.
But also there are many fine makers doing models in 1095, 1084, and other carbon steels and for me these will also do the job.

Really it is just a matter of trying some out and finding your own preferences.

Another tip....you are not going to get any ideas from your poll from peopleh answering "other." All you will get is the preference among the list you provided. So Im a bit confused. Why not have a "open response" thread where you ask "Whats your favorite survival knife?"

Mines "other," BTW.
