Gee, let us see... Other. Now then, survival knife, Air Force Survival Knife(old style), though I also have a Cold Steel SRK, Mora knife, Becker Necker within limitations, Glock Field Knife, two Winchester Chinese knives I got at Wallyworld, two Buck 119s, a Cold Steel Bushman and its smaller version.. I could come up with a few more. I would like to try an Ontario Navy MKIII knife.

id be looking at Fallkniven and ESEE....with a SAK or Leatherman for good measure

The Beckers are adequate but no where near "the best." The BK2 would be my last choice in the entire Becker line. I'd prefer a mora over all of the knives you have listed.

I settled on the GSO 4.1. It's a kephart blade with modern materials. It's strong, light, and can do actual knife chores with ease. That said I only bought it because I'm a knife guy and I wanted something fancier than a mora.

Tonight it would be a Super CQC-8 or Spyderco Mini-Manix...because that's what will be in my pockets at work. :)

You must be new to the knife world.

I wouldn't assume that. Maybe new to the BF "market."

I get the feeling that this proved to be an informative bit of market research for the OP...which I kind of suspect was the whole point of this exercise all along. Nothing wrong with that....I'm sure everyone would have been glad to help in a bit of research for a new, fellow member.

thanks! you nailed it! Here to do some market research and learn from the pros - not spam the forum with stuff you dont want to buy.

Like I said, I'm sure everyone would have been glad to help if you asked at the outset.

That said, the demographic here might not be a great sample. Look at the Gerber BG stuff. Pretty much hated here, but it looks like they can't make 'em fast enough for the general populace.

Face it, we are niche market geeky knife snobs. :D Well, not me. The rest of the people here.

Busse, ESEE, Fallkniven, BK&T, and Survive all have great offerings. In the spirit of doing a bit of research: one might also look at the new LionSteel M7, the Hogue/Elishewitz fixed blade collaborations, and the KnifeResearch Legion, Rasul, and Enki. Though not production, keep an eye on the Custom and Knifemaker's subforum and the Knifemaker's sales subforum under the Exchange forum for great designs. Mike

I voted other. If your looking for a cheaper knife a Mora, the next knife higher in price the ESEE Laserstrike or ESEE 4, and if you have a bigger budget the Busse Anorexic Boss Street.

There are plenty of awesome customs out there like Koster, Fletcher, Newberry, and Gossman that might fit your bill.

I know this seems like a wasted poll to alot of folks, but this is helping me a TON. I hope to research some of the other knives posted here and make a top 20 list of survival knives with an overview of each knife along with specs.

Becker and ESEE are my vote. Those would be followed by brands such as (no particular order; I own some of them but not all) Tops, Survive!, Bark River, Falkniven, Mora, Condor, and Busse&kin.

I think most (non-knife) people would vote for the coolest looking knife Walmart has on display, or something from SOG b/c of their Navy Seal marketing strategy...but as a knife person, my vote is "other". I like the Becker BK12, Fallkniven F1, BK16, and probably something Busse if I could afford a Busse collection. I think I also have slightly different requirements for survival knives than those mentioned, namely ease of sharpening...

Busse TGLB gets my vote.

Most "serious" knives can't be bought at Walmart or other other box stores. I'm sure someone will chime in to tell me I'm wrong though.

For the money the ESEE-4, and Becker are hard to beat, but my Bark River Bravo-1 comes with me most of the time, and a Fallkniven F1 lives in my flight bag as a "survival" tool.

I'll chime in with an "I agree" ........let the others tell us how wrong we are!
