My money says 80% will fail the spine whack test.
Are you talking one whack or the multiple whacks in succession that I see on YouTube? I can make any frame lock slip if I whack it with high velocity multiple times in a row without stopping.

I have owned over 50 different ZT's, was the only brand that I used for quite a while, and I NEVER had one fail. I have moved on to other brands over the last few years but not because of spine whacking but mostly because of lack of interest in most of their newer models and my infatuation with OTF's. The newer models seem more like pocket jewelry than users but I do use the ones that I have with no issues.

EDIT: I did have a 0452CF with a lockbar that would slide further into the locked position if I put way more pressure than needed in my grip, basically trying to make it slip, but it never moved the other way and unlocked.

Zt has some individual knives out there with issues. My 620cf had a spine you could push on and get the lock to fail. Bending the lock in a slight bit more fixed the problem 100%

The majority of ZT knives I have owned (all the rest) had zero lockup issues. So that is 5 no problems and one with a problem. Seems pretty much what consensus is that the bast majority of their knives work fine.

Ideally I would like to see ZT catch all the knives with failing lockup. Apparently Spyderco does a few spine taps with each knife before they ship it. I would like to see ZT do that too. Also seems like some people who sent their knives in to get fixed ZT didn’t really fix them.

Overall though I think this issue is blowing things way out of proportion. To boycott the brand or talk smack about it every time they come up seems pretty excessive.

I have a few ZTs and no one ever failed on me. I did some backspin tests and they passed them well.

In my collection I have: 0350(had 3, sold 2, kept a m390 variant), 0550, 0562cf, 0630orblk, 0801(2 offs)

Nowadays I am moving away from the brand as I am not much into flippers anymore but as far as I have been concerned, I only have good things to say about the quality of the knives I had from ZT

How much money you got? :D

I'm at a 0% spine whack fail rate. Not a single one failed in actual use either.

He won't put his money where his mouth is. Come on Cray, you know clone supporters are all the same everywhere they go.

No. I did have a Hinder ZT (model escapes me) that you could shake the blade open. I returned it and have had a few ZTs since but have never had an issue with any of them. Well, besides their cheap clip screws that seem to strip out no matter what.

Nope and don't expect one do fail either. A lot of people pass on bad info here on the forums. Kinda like recommending a knife they have never owned.
