I didn't vote, because I like options. I should have posted on your other thread because that open spine style leather sheath is pretty darn cool!:thumbup:

Back to the no vote... Options are good, Me? I'd probably go for the strap retention, that is if it rotates out of the way of the edge, but I also like the magnet idea, and the possibility of both on a single sheath... 3 options, one style, what's not to like? :D ...However, seeing your pic of that NMSFNO held in place even with the extra weight of the visegrips has me shaking my head and starting to believe...

...And speaking of NMSFNO... to those who think that this is a spam post, I disagree. Yes, there is a sheaths forum now, but since Busse's come without sheaths, and other sheathmakers can post their sheaths and new concepts here, why can't Rawhide Leather? He is showing his latest idea with a Busse, ain't he??

Rawhide Leather... I say keep on keepin' on, but don't forget where you're at when you're here, so represent with some INFI and I'll keep lookin'!! :D:thumbup:

As for this not being in the right place I am the one that told Richard to post here I believe that people would be interested in Richard's high quality work. I know I am.
When does some one have to oooh and aaah over every knife to be a part of this community. He obviously likes Busse's enough to be buying them and tailoring his work to them. Running Viagra adds is spaming not asking opinions to dial in a better prouduct that we will all reap the benifits of if we choose to. I call that prouduct developement and I like it.

I agree. :)

First off, i think both would be better.. especially if the strap was removable. Second when are you gonna make it for an ak? :P

Plus if this was only posted in sheath forums i'd have never seen it. I think your work is very impressive. Someday my bank account will recover from the 2000+ dollars ive spent on Busses in the month ive been on this forum. Maybe after a while ill have enough to get one of your sheaths.

Dont let some old timers scare you off from the great forum here, even us newbies have a right to post.

Cool
looking sheath..at 1st I was going to say "BOTH" and then the whole magnet and compass, GPS, Radio thing came up.
And that is a very valid point not to have magnets.

Steelnut...seems to me that your interest in Busse's started when you could make $50 bucks off of them on Ebay and the 4 Sale Forums...
After you were busted out on that several times you started making sheaths...
You had your 15 minutes of fame...why don't you step aside now and let someone else have the spotlight.
These are very nice sheaths..I prefer Leather and I'm always looking for killer sheaths.

Just my .02 but having seen what these can do, I am careful with them.

Also I have pinched my skin in between two and yeowch!! blood blister...

I hope it didn't look like this fellow's finger:

Dirk loses finger tip in rare earth magnet accident!

I'm very confident that nobody would be losing any of their valued INFI whilst attached to a neodymium magnetic sheath system....a finger maybe, but I digress....

I really like the magnet concept. I have seen them before. I am in the group that worries about cooking my computer or phone, or (enter device here). If I lost all the numbers in my phone I would be up a creek without a paddle.

My vote stays with the strap, just for that tecno-ruin-worry. It might never happen, but I would be concerned.

Just a design suggestion. I forget most of my old high school physics, but if you wrap the magnet area with a metal band or cup, wouldn't that concentrate the magnetic field inside the band reducing (but not eliminating) the interference issues ? Is OldPhysics in the house ?

Beautiful sheaths. Both options seem to be the best. Having equipment go crazy because of magnets can sometime cause a large disaster. Other times it can be entertaining such as walking down a row of tv's at a store;)

Steelnut- why not chill out? If YOU don't like it and think it's not appropriate, report it to a mod and let THEM make the decision?

I agree, they are very nice sheaths.

My point is that if every single post a person makes here is about what they are selling?
Then it's SPAM, That's all:cool::cool:

While I appreciate/admire the ingenuity of Rawhide Leather's sheath, I think steelnut has a valid point. Every sheath maker that I've bought from has at least half their posts here showing off their knives or using them in the field. I think being part of this community, a community welcome to new members, is to contribute more than a product you want to sell. When a post about getting a new knife, a chopping session or a new convex edge is all it takes to contribute, I don't think it is too much to ask. Like I said above, I like Rawhide Leather's sheaths, but steelnut has a point.

You don't see any pics of mine using my knives but I do comment on many different makers products. I've been here since 1999 and have less than 1000 posts because I keep my mouth shut and my eyes open. If some of the "newer" members would do the same thing it might be a better place to visit. Again, sorry about the hijack but if you have a problem with a post TAKE IT TO A MOD! The guy brought forth ideas for sheaths concerning Busse's. How in the hell does that constitute Spam?
Owning Busse's and having a lot of posts does not make you a "Hog"
BTW, still like your sheaths Rawhide ;)

I think I would like to see both incorperated into one sheath . That way you could undo the keeper strap if you anticipated needing your blade quickly or if you where working with it in and out of the sheath it would still be secure. Then when you needed max retention use the keeper. So my vote goes for both on one sheath.

+1! Couldn't agree more.

Thanks for taking the time to post your preferences guys. I'm glad I decided to post this here because some valid points were made that I hadn't thought of concerning the magnets. The last thing I want is someone's equipment going south because of my sheath. I had to use larger and more magnets than normal to achieve the retention I was looking for so that makes that aspect of using the magnets even more of a potential problem.

Though they are pretty cool I've decided to stick with the keeper strap as the magnet option would be more expensive and difficult to do and I want to try to keep the cost down where I can for my customers. Also, the majority has voted for the strap. I just wish I had asked about the leg strap and pivoting feature now too as some of you don't seem to care for leg staps. Not sure why though as this one is very comfortable with the stretchable elastic...??? Anyone care to elaborate?

Steelnut - You are correct that I haven't posted anything about my knives. The following statement probably won't do much for my popularity here but here it is anyway: Although I honestly like the 3 Busse knives I have, to me they are a tool like any other well made tool.

I will admit that I'm not much of a knife enthusiast and I'm not going to pretend to be one to try and make a few more sales here. I chose Busse knives because they are a very well made and attractive tool with innovative designs and they have lots of devoted fans (such as yourself). They also come without sheaths. I think a quality knife deserves a quality sheath - simple as that. I am 58 years old and my days of getting excited enough about material things to want to gush about them to others are pretty much over. Also, it has never been my style to do so - that's just me. I only have 2 things in life that I have a real passion for to be completely honest - leatherwork and my guitar. I am also a one-man show and stay pretty busy with my work.

So Steelnut, if I don't meet your seemingly personal rigid criteria for posting here then just have another brew, you'll get over it in time...

You made my point. You had over 30 posts on the Busse Forum in the month of March keeping your mouth shut.;) You contribute to the mix with information and comments. I hope being a "newer" member is not a bad thing considering we were all new once. I've had to ask a lot questions, but have have always felt welcome here and am slowly building my INFI collection along with making new friends.

Hey Flatlander - Thanks.

Steelnut - I appreciate your relaxed stance. I don't believe I ever tried to pass myself off as a Hog wannabe or anything of the sort. I merely make knife sheaths that I thought some of your Busse brothers might be interested in - end of story. Making a buck or 2 is only a part of the equation as my business was rolling along fine before I came here. I like to think I'm offering something rather unique that can't be found at the local Wal-Mart like a pair of "tennis shoes".

When I finally have a finished product that I'm actually trying to sell then I certainly agree that the For Sale forum would be the correct one. The majority here seem to want me to continue with posts of this nature on this forum and if they didn't I would simply disappear like a puff of smoke. Hopefully a Moderator will chime in and let me know if I have or haven't breached some form of etiquette and if I have, where I should post in the future.

I just got this from Wikipedia: Forum spam is the posting of advertisements, abusive, or unwanted messages on Internet forums. It is generally posted by automated spambots.

If others think I fall into that category please let me know as I hate spam myself!

Hey, I like beer too - a lot - but then I don't rave about that either! That's just me!:D

BTW...I like the pivot, that way you can sit down without taking it off.
I can go either way on the leg strap if they are big enough.

One concern I have would be it bouncing up and dropping out, is there any pressure holding the knife in place other than the retention strap?

I think I would like more leather on the front and have to pull it through like a break away.

OK..here's a solution, use the strap, add a pin lock to hold the knike down.( 1/2" pin through talon hole)
Unsnap strap, slight rotation when pulling the knife, it clears the pin and it's out.
