POLL: WHAT IS THE BEST FACTORY MADE TACTICAL FOLDER.

I like the Genesis EDI myself, just liked it right away. It's a solid knife, at least it has been in my experriences.

Thanks for all the replies people, you forumites are good in the fact that i get a number of answers, by the way, i live in ny, an i'm a civilian, no auto's for me, i hate autos anyway, u must pull the knife from your pocket, get a correct grip, then press the button-way to slow, i'd rather whip the blade out of the socom.

That was not your question rage. You took it out of liner locks with your follow up on "What is the strongest lock?".Nonetheless I think that the button lock is the state of the art for staying closed or open.I am sure that I am not alone here. What the heck.

socom.... reason is that i can trade it for a military and probably another 100 bucks worth of stuff... that was the da model, right?

I own an AFCombatK-bt, but the best would have to be the REKAT Carnavour with a Talononite blade.

Frank (rage) -- If I recall correctly, the Military broke when around 500 in/lbs of force was applied to the handle with the blade locked on. I think the Starmate, constructed the same like the Military, would also break at this point. The SOCOM broke at at around 450 in/lbs. The REKAT rolling lock made it to 1,000 in/lbs.

Since Emerson Knives will have their own forum here soon, you might want to ask Ernest to send his folders (Commander, SpecWar, Raven and CQC7) to Spyderco for testing. Mr. De Asis will send his Axis folder for a test. You might want to ask him to incude an AFCK, Stryker, and Sentinel/Drak Star, too. This also applies to the MOD knives, and EDI's Genesis.

Ooh...hard one. Well it boils down to which one has the fewest # of features I dont like:

I dont like stainless steel(yes that includes "rust like carbon steel" ats-34)

I dont like partial liners(just a personal preference)
I dont like folders I cant take apart(as much

)
I dont like paint for a blade coating
And I absolutely abhor rubber inserts.

This gives the MT - 4 bad things
A military - 2 bad things
The EDI - 1 bad thing
The M2 AFCK - 1 bad thing

I pick the AFCK because of ergonomic reasons, and the fact that I just love carbon steel. If they'd just use TiN instead of that teflon paint!! Just dont think im ragging on the MT, I almost bought one... if not for those nasty inserts I'd probably be playing with it while I wrote this post....

From: Ivan6-19-99 951PM EDT For purely self defense,of my liner locks,I would go with the Cold Steel Scimitarwhich has a wicked curved blade and real strong liner lock,I believe. I like my big Cold steel Gunsite, but it is a lockback design and doesnt count since you want linerlock catagory knives.

Decisions decisions.

My daily carry is the CS 4" Tanto which is not a liner lock. So, I will have to say the runner-ups are my BM AFCK or BM Tsunami, a 4" tanto with 440c blade, stainless liner lock and aluminum scales... a very rugged knife.

Parker: indeed. I know Kevin and his work but it is no longer factory.

Staying on Rages criteria for FACTORY LINER lock TACTICALS (what exactly is tactical anyway? right?):

BM Stryker (just look at it!)
BM AFCK (not totally tactical but a great all arounder)
Spyderco Wegner (more utility but THE BEST all arounder IMO and experience!)

As for strength, well Sal Glesser at Spyderco could put each and every model made thru the plants test machine!

My favorite is the Emerson design, BM CQC7 with a half serrated blade, I've had one for about three years and have used it for many things and when I could'nt use it for something my leatherman supertool works just fine. I just ordered a Smoking Hole "Mantis" I hope it turns out to be as good as these other top quality knives. I know I am taking a chance but Smoking Hole has a pretty big reputation to uphold. I'll give you an update after I receive it.

My choice has to be the Emerson Commander, half serrated. This is just personal preference .There have been a couple of dozen knives mentioned that would serve well, the difference is what suits the individual ergonomically and financially.

From: Ivan 6-22-99 1044PM EDT In a self defense scenario, I like the CS Scimitar. What a mean looking blade and I bet that liner lock is plenty strong. But I may cheat and use the big Gunsite even though it is a lockback knife. Ivan

my vote goes to military\starmate being built practicaly the same and on the level
my beloved comander.
