The #66 Slim has been on my radar for a long time, but they never pop up... you are very lucky to have one. 🤠

Thanks John, indeed I am! All 66 variations seem to be great, but this slim is hands down better than my calf roper. The walk and talk is just like it should be and the blades are ground with the old machine.

That’s a #77 Washington Punch Knife in Smooth Autumn Gold Bone, one of Charlie’s @waynorth Harness Jack SFOs (HJ#8, I believe).

Beautiful, and you've kept it in pristine condition. Appreciate you posting those pics.

Thanks. That’s one I keep telling myself I’m going to carry, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to do it… yet. 🙂

Like Eric I have been around since the beginning.
About 2000 I discovered Queen's Schatt and Morgan line and began to deal with Clarence Risner. Clarence first told me about Bill and his influence on the Annual Reproduction Series or Keystone Series and also the File and Wire Series. By 2005 Clarence and Charlie teamed up with HJ #1, Charlie had found his true mate in Bill and I learned much more about this true Master Cutler. Both Charlie and Bill have a love and an "eye" for traditional pocketknives and what a ride it has been! I honestly believe that we are witness to a rebirth of tradition pocketknives that without Bill Howard might never have happened. I have had many conversations with Charlie about Bill's prowess as a Master Cutler, I don't know how many time Charlie has told me that " there is nothing that Bill can't do" from forging the TC bolsters to dying bone. Everything is done "in house" with the exception of heat treat. Bill knows how to build em so they look right!
Anyway I was in line for the first offerings also and have been a BIG fan Of GEC and of Charlie's SFO's ever since.

I went to the IMOJI selection and found it woefully lacking Dave . I am sure that they are all made of Unobtainium . I still remember our conversation , face to face , about the very hard to find and wonderful material .
I hope you are doing well my friend .

Harry

How does the cap lifter work on the 2016? I have one from the most recent run and the cap lifter is difficult to use, so much so that I put the knife aside.
I had a few from the first run and the Ebony was almost unusable. My tortious shell is perfect especially since I’ve used it so much. The others were pretty great as well.

what model do you have ?

I discovered GEC browsing YouTube knife reviews a while back. Was probably watching Stefan schmalhaus videos. That guy's videos always make me hungry.

I think these were my first two GEC knives.
I believe they were 2008 models, I took this picture in 2009. Wish I still had the Stockman.
Back in the day when they needed us to buy knives it was a great situation. Now not so much. That worm will turn again.

Interesting, you mean the knife with the ebony covers couldn't lift a cap for sh*t? I've got the #85 Tidioute Crown Lifter (Canvas Micarta) - love the fat spear point profile and everything else about it, except I can't open a bottle of beer with it! It's gone into my "save to sell later" collection.

One of my first 25’s was made on 8/8/08, can’t recall if I got my ebony 73 sfo from Cumberland Knife Works before or after that…

2018. Got a #43 Beaver Tail because I liked the shield. Crazy to think that just a handful of years ago you could take your time picking out which GEC to buy.

2008——#541308W Bought it at the place in Sevierville, TN; they had several different models in the case. I didn’t know anything about GEC at the time; I mostly bought Queen and Case. I did buy a Case Barlow a couple years ago when that run came out, and I still buy a few vintage knives, but most any new knife I buy now is GEC.

I had purchased the same #85 Micarta and quite literally broke my nails trying to open the spear and especially the cap lifter. Was my first multiblade and I was kinda hoping I’d like it but sold it a week later. It’s the first traditional I’ve ever parted ways and sold from my growing collection and I don’t really miss it.

I have though grown mighty fond of the older #85’s, especially the rotten banana. I’d want to trade for one down the line but can’t see myself parting ways with any knife in my collection 😆

Yes! The older 85s, like what F Fanglekai posted above with the easy open cutout - love 'em!

No, I mean I almost broke my thumb nail opening it. Way, way too strong of a pull.
