POLL- Who thinks BM has below par QC?

I'm certainly no fan of Benchmade but fair is fair. BM's quality control is fine. I speak from some experience since we have sold literally thousands of them. We get very few returns because of quality. Several other competitors of theirs have a higher return rate for defective products. My suspicion is that the defects that do occur get more publicity on BF and other knife forums than is appropriate. No kidding. I dislike Benchmade as a company. I own not a single Benchmade knife personally but I have a broader base of experience than any end user and I'll tell you the products are good and the quality control more than acceptable. There's the truth. Take care.

Fred,
Thank you for the honest, obviously un-biased opinion concerning the QC issue of Benchmade.

Anyone who will tell you up front they do not like the company but will address the issue at hand in a fair and honest way is OK by me. No matter what they say.

Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!!

I disagree. My one experience with BM leads me to believe their QC blows. Member after member on this Forum have complained about sending knives back, myself included, when ordered over the internet. Mine I sent back to BM. They fixed half of the problem. Members even talk about having to go through several specimens at Brick&Mortar shops to find a good one. This is not a conspiracy against Benchmade. This is the reality of the single most controversial knife maker out there. Having said all this, I like my 710 better than anything else. It's a great knife. People still buy BM because they make good knives, especially those fantastic Axis locks, even if you have to tweek this or that after you buy one. Benchmade should spend more effort and time on QC, including sharpening, and raise the price of their products by $20. They would sell even more knives then. BTW, Knife Outlet, I ordered a Sere 2000 from you guys, and you sent me a flawless knife. Thank you.

Jeff:

Glad you enjoyed the Al Mar Sere 2000.

As a note, I wouldn't think a universe of one knife is a good indicator of quality control. I also think that you hear loads from the small minority of Benchmade knives that are defective. You don't hear from the great majority that aren't. I ran some queries from our accounting database. Year to date returns for defective Benchmade products are 3/10 of one percent. That could be a high rate or low rate depending on how you want to view it. I view it as a low rate. It's possible that some defects were handled with Benchmade rather than being returned to us. I don't have any way to know. I certainly don't view it as a quality control problem at all, assuming that most customers with a defective Benchmade returned them to us.

Hey, this could be the only time in history you see me defending Benchmade. I guess I better log off before somebody thinks I've gone soft on them. I haven't. Take care.
