Positive firsthand experience with Lynn Thompson

Who the hell cares what kind of person Lynn Thompson is? I only care about what kind of purveyor of knives he is.

I always thought the Voyager was one of three knives for the same sort of role, along with the Endura and Griptilian.
The price for each sometimes ends up being around the same (depending on how new or used, what year, what steel used, etc.), and all work similarly well pretty much, if you choose a model of the same size...obviously, my XL Voyager works to clear tall grasses far better than my Endura, but it doesn't work as well for some tasks done more easily with a shorter blade.

The Large tends to both fit my hands and have perfect (almost too big but not quite) and have a great blade width and profile. It's really a super great no nonsense frills knife in my opinion. It's one of the few Cold Steels I've still kept when I've sold or traded others.

That said, I miss my full size Griptilian sheepsfoot, should not have sold that sucker. Or the Adamas.

Edit: I also kept the Pocket Bushman. I don't know why. It's impossible for me to open without two hands and it takes a bit of effort to close as well. And sticks way out of the pocket when clipped. All problems the Voyager does not have.

But the Pocket Bushman is so light, big, and shiny.....

Ahhh okay, thanks. I admit I don't look kindly on the "sitting and waiting" version of hunting. It's not real hunting, IMHO. To hunt something, you need to go get it.

I agree. I dont mind hunting as long as its not simply for sport and trophies and I really really hate bait and ambush as well as canned hunts. But I support real hunting 100%

Funny, I've seen about 20 tuber reviews and not ONE of them had any issues with it. Funny how you take that 1 guy's word for it but not the 20 other guys(not to mention all the people here) who say different.

Gideon's tactical usually finds it difficult to offend any gear company he reviews. I also want you to know I don't give a hoot what you "find funny" about my decisions. Cold Steel and Lyn Thompson are the subject here, not me. I'll do what I want with my money and participate in any topic I choose. You think Lyn is gonna pat you on the head and tell you your a good boy. Keep out of my wallet. Posters like you make humans sick. The PC police are the lowest there is. I recommend everyone put you on ignore. Your shunned for life son.

Woooooo, DANG. This place is on FYE-AAAAHHHH tonight!

I met Emerson a few times and formed a good impression of him. Then I heard Ernie was behaving like Lynn Thompson, out of the blue. My only thought was, "wow, that's unnecessary." Then I saw this video and was absolutely flabbergasted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgPwmXnd0dI

Call it coincidence, but Lynn's been circulating footage of himself doing martial arts for literally over 20 years - always wearing his trademark black active wear with shorts. It would take some grossly inconsistent thinking for me to watch this video of Ernie in black active wear (and Lynn's trademark black shorts) hitting a heavy bag and somehow deny that at the time, Ernie was going through a Lynn Thompson phase.

Not that I blame Ernie AT ALL for apparently following Lynn's lead. But it simply was not a good look for him. I was relieved when I saw that Ernie grew out his beard and walks around looking like a professor these days.
I've said it a few times on here, and I'll say it again. I'm glad that we have both Cold Steel and Emerson Knives, Inc. And I'm glad their respective founders have finally settled on fixed personas.

I think you are obsessed with lynn thompson and have a tendency to repeat the exact same thing over and over again in slightly different words. We know that you think ernest was trying to copy lynn as you have posted it at least 3 different times now in this same thread. I still say you are reaching to make any connection you can of the two. Ernest emerson has been doing martial arts since 1971 and most of the work out wear that these types of people wear are going to be similar. I could probably find 4000+ videos of other people doing martial arts with the same outfit. Are they all trying to copy your hero?

For sure. Don't want to derail anything but in my area, and many, hunting is a big help to animal populations and conservation efforts. It all goes well together when done responsibly.

In fairness, I don't think he's trying to be PC about anything. Just stating the the preponderance of the information he has tells a different story.

This scene from Seinfeld is all I can think of while reading the OP's posts... lol

Absolutely no reflection on the OP, that scene is hilarious.

And it's all good.

I feel similarly about Tom Hardy.

That you sincerely look at that video and think that Ernie's attempting to act like LT is either the most insane, or the most asinine thing I've read here in awhile, I'm not sure which.
The reason I was discounting the possibility of a coincidence is the fact that Lynn and Ernie are both top knife makers from Southern California. #1 and #2, respectively (imho). That's a vanishingly small demographic, so, to me, coincidence seems less likely. Plus, Ernie was starting to camp it up for a while. Big time. But, hey, I'll drop the subject since, you're right, I have brought it up a few times. I apologize for belaboring the matter of Ernie possibly trying to ape Lynn.

They aren't even close. Sorry.

They aren't even close. Sorry.

As someone who has no idea who the top dogs of most states are, does anyone know if there is a consensus in regards to SoCal or other areas? I've never thought about who's at the top, myself.

Or did you mean they are not close to one another?

I admit I openly laughed when I read the bolded. WHAT? "These two guys are in similar professions, and being that they might both enjoy the same thing, clearly one guy is copying the persona and interests of the other!"

Like, that logic doesn't even make any sense. However, I find warm-fuzzies in the small victories so I'll accept the apology, and the dropping of the subject.

Also, I would state that calling them both knife-makers is a stretch. What knives has Lynn made? Are any for sale? #1 and #2. Lynn isn't a knife-maker, he's a marketing stooge, that much has been obvious.

While I can't claim the title of close friends (as you have in this thread, it went from "Yeah we hit a buffet once" to insinuations that you guys hang out a lot), I DID meet the guy at Blade and just found him to be ridiculous, as he was bathed in sweat while wearing Japanese Iado gear (complete with basket helmet) as he was showing the crowd how to fend off a bad guy (a booth employee) who had one of those Brooklyn bats, with a rapier (which he had). Cracked me up.

While I'm not huge Ernie fan, at least he is a knife maker. Lynn doesn't make knives, how many times must you be told? This thread will likely be closed soon and your quest won't have furthered at all.

Was the booth employee a hot babe?

I mean, there's no reason for them to close the thread. I don't mind the barbs, personally. It's just opposing viewpoints and no malice. At least not from me. I don't find it tiresome at all, and, like I said, I apologize for belaboring anything.

They are not close in that one doesn't make anything. Nothing wrong with that but one is a knife maker and one just markets knives. There can be no confusion about this.

Honestly? It was a second sweaty dude in a black Cold Steel tee-shirt who, like Lynn, looked like he had no martial arts training whatsoever. I found the entire spectacle both ridiculous and hilarious. Like, what a silly scenario. "OMG, the bad guy has a black plastic bat! All I happen to have on me is this Japanese sword fighting gear and this oddly incongruous Three Musketeers rapier! It's whatever, OK Steve, COME AT ME!"

I'm starting to think I'm missing out having never watched a Cold Steel video featuring Lynn.

It would have been even better if Lynn had been unable to best his opponent.
