How To Possible to shorten a blade to meet State law?

Now the rub. The Socoms blade is 3.98" long, and the CT statute prohibits knives of 4" or longer "cutting edge". I know, as long as I don't do anything stupid I'll likely have no problems as-is, but I like to "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst" and avoid having to get hauled in for an illegal knife, even if later proven to be innocent after spending on a legal defense...
What am I missing? CT has a blade limit of 4". If the Socom is 3.98", it's legal.

If your absolutely stuck on carrying the Socom, and feel that it is too close to the legal limit to be comfortable with, I second the idea of adding a finger choil. No special tooling necessary. Hell, I've added a choil to some of mine using a dremmel lol. Just take it slow with plenty of water as to not mess up the heat treat.

I just feel that if you chopped a quarter inch off the tip, especially already being a tanto, the terminating grind would be so thick that it would be hard to get a respectable cutting edge back on it. Just my .02 cents 🤞

Get a smaller knife, don't destroy a Microtech for no reason. Try the Benchmade adamas mini. Best folding knife for the money I've owned.
Why would it be “destroying” If I’m going to carry it six months out of the year?

Any police officer that's going to arrest you for carrying a 4" blade isn't going to care if you add a finger choil to reduce the cutting edge.

Just get another socom (used), and try the choil mod on it. See how you like it. That way you still have your socom.

I just would prefer to avoid any potential hassle a overly gung ho rookie might give when he left his micrometer at home and sees 3.98” as 4”. And the law is 4” and over is illegal. Felony illegal. So again, not worth the risk to me when the solution is a simple and I’m finding out inexpensive modification.

I’m not going to use a tanto. I said I’d pick up a drop point version for this. Much thinner tip then the tanto profile.

Guys, I’m really not here to debate the legality or insanity of my plan, I was really hoping on seeing examples of blade modifications. But in the mean time I found a blade smith here who can and will make the mod I want for what seems like pennys to me. I’ll post the outcome. It may take a little while as I have to source the model I want and Socoms aren’t in any stores and the used market isn’t as free flowing as say CRK’s… Not as sane prices that I’d pay at least. I just picked up a NIB drop point black manual, but it’s tactical finish, and I want plain stone washed for this project.

Here are a couple more of mine. The bottom one is the profile, with the finish of the top…

Hi David, take a look at my most recent post, I’m talking about a drop point blade, not a tanto.

Understood. I still recommend the same approach, it just takes a slightly different line.

The other potential issue with trying to come from beneath towards the spine, instead of from above down toward the edge is making sure the tip still fits in the handle instead of poking out slightly. That issue can't happen if we drop the tip height instead of raise it.

And that right there is the sign of a true professional.

Good eye there David  .

I get what you are saying but we don’t have to worry about that with this knife. The blade doesn’t even approach the level of the ”scales” for at least an inch of length.

This is the drop point version by the way, the exact shape I’m looking to mod.

I’m thinking shorten about to the second ridge…
