Just for sake of science, this was a knife attack incident that happened a few months ago. This is a photo that the Harford police department took. Your guess is as good as mine what they're measuring.

YIKES!

That knife wasn't just used to commit a crime...that knife IS a crime. A crime against good taste.

It pleases me to know that even in my most adolescent "mall-ninja" phase I wouldn't be caught dead with such an abomination.

😁

I just would prefer to avoid any potential hassle a overly gung ho rookie might give when he left his micrometer at home and sees 3.98” as 4”. And the law is 4” and over is illegal.

Print out the maker's specs and carry them with you, perhaps? Then you have some documentation to show. (Heck, have the printout notarized...)

Mchad65 Mchad65 FYI, if you’re patient and look around enough, you can just buy a Socom Mini. Microtech made them in a couple different sizes some years back. Solves all the problems 😉
Had one. Didn’t really like it, so I sold it. I’m good with the plan, thanks.

Careful in CT. If you happen to drive into Rhode Island, blades are limited to 3".
You know what’s even funnier? In NYC, the land of the most restrictive liberal laws, possessing an automatic knife is only a misdemeanor, while a 4” blade in CT is a felony. The Northeast is pretty crazy.

Already have a Sebenza. And a Para 3 which is pretty much as legal as they get.

I want this, and I shall have it… It’s not that complicated, provided you have access to the right skills and tools. And I appear to have found someone with both!
Well it would be super easy to alter especially with a flat drop and chamfers. Can't wait to see it, it may change my mind.

I’m still a little confused on what the problem is. CT law says the edge part of the blade cannot be more than 4”.

^^^ Me too.

CT, right ? Also, can you just get a hunting or fishing license ?

He's afraid an over zealous officer who doesn't have a ruler handy would arrest him. Which can still happen anyway...

You have to be actively hunting or fishing to carry a larger knife in CT.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to .... (F) any person holding a valid hunting, fishing, or trapping license issued pursuant to chapter 490 or any saltwater fisherman carrying such knife for lawful hunting, fishing, or trapping activities, or ...

If I were the OP, I'd check with my sheriff before shortening the blade. Anyways, not my fight and I'm not a lawyer, so please carry on.

I fish all the time, and frequently carry knives over 4in (usually fixed blades). I also see many people (in RI, MA, etc) who fish, carry large fillet or fixed blades. I also usually carry my little utx70 double edge serrated because it's so handy to cut lines and handle tackle with.

Just throwing it out there. I've gotten my license and fish checked...30 times over the years? Usually DEEP, occasionally cops, never did they even bat an eye at my knives except that one guy with my little dagger.

What if? Look, the law is really easy to look up and the OP can do whatever he wants to his knife. I guess I don't have run-ins with over zealous officers or any law enforcement for the matter.

The second part is the important part. You need to be actively fishing, hunting or trapping.

I'm not the one who's worried. I know the law in my state and I can pull up the law in a second on my phone if needed.

Heaven forbid you need to use it in self defense.....
lawyers and politicians get involved.
You go before the court. (why wouldn't they be on Your side, Right?)

They look up the model, manufacture lists blade length.. Which is too long for where you live. It's illegal to carry.
Luckily you are rich, and pay lots more money for "good lawyers" .....
It's determined that you MODIFIED this weapon to not only skirt the law, but to make it even more tactical and Deadly!!!

why would any law abiding citizen do such a thing???

Get something different from the manufacture (with a kind and gentle sounding name) ...... Sorry, it's the world we live in.

Admittedly, if a prosecutor wants to carve your notch in his or her belt, I wouldn't be surprised at this. Even though it's ridiculous. Such are the times.

And don't forget to ask Remington what they think of Connecticut.. something Else to think about. :/

Yes it is ridiculous.... to even come up with such nonsense. There is nothing in the law that says you can't modify a knife. The only stipulation in the law is that any knife with a cutting edge that is 4" or more is considered a dangerous weapon. That is all. There is no "looking at specs" or anything else. If the knife in question has a cutting edge that is less than 4" its legal. Whether or not it started life that way is irrelevant.
As to the Sandy Hook reference, thats got nothing at all to do with anything here except for inflammatory purposes.
