Post Mortem Reflections: CS dead?

I felt the 2023 product roll-out was very lackluster. You gotta admit, LT’s over the top promos and enthusiasm was very unique and very 1980’s-ish, LOL! I’m missing the 80’s more and more everyday, especially with all the insanity going on in the country now, but I digress. A CS Rep visited the board but seems to have disappeared…was hoping we’d get an update on spare parts availability, etc.
Well I wonder where he went to? Maybe his bosses wouldn't let him make parts available. It's all about profits profits profits and profits.

I've been spending my discretionary funds on Twosun models...impressive F&F, very reasonable prices, top drawer materials, lots of original <read: not clones> models from both in-house and independent designers.

All that combined with the panache they showcase on some truly uniquely styled creations-- it makes for a really fulfilling collecting experience.

Here's a sampling...I've got under $200 in both these off gray market-- but hell, even brand new, they're around $120 give/take...big 'ol slabs of monolithic Ti, sculpted pocket clips, ceramic bearings, excellent detents, quality D2 steel...these are mint, but on my user TS's with D2, I've found it to be a great tool steel that's relatively easy to get a tough toothy <400 grit> working edge....

Check out those killer grinds  :

I really don't understand those types of blades, or the weehawk style which also seems to be all the rage lately. It seems like going backwards just to somehow look custom and sophisticated. Seems like hipster stuff to me.

I didn't understand XL Espada, either till I bought one.

But, I know what you're getting at. Some of Twosun's styles are way out there. Not for everybody. They make more traditional patterns, too.

What's a "weehawk"? Is this a weehawk....

I think a weehawk is a type of clip point that was apparently popular in the 1980s.

I remember seeing it in knife catalogs when I first got into knives.

There was plenty of crazy around during the 80s. IIRC, the Soviet Union nearly blew up the whole world over a weather sounding rocket. The launch of the rocket had been published through normal protocol, but communications had gone wrong and the Soviet‘s early warning system got triggered. They were a button push away from launching an all out nuclear strike, but the colonel in charge refused to confirm the attack. That incident was the closest we came to Mutually Assured Destruction.

Around that time a TV movie came out titled The Day After, which was aired during prime time on one of the three major national networks. The film was about the aftermath of an all out nuclear war. The next morning the streets of NYC were noticeably quieter. The 80s were legitimately scary times. That fear was one of the drivers behind the popularity of the survival knife craze.

Oh I agree, that sort of stuff is horrible and always lurked in the background. But at least the social issues didn’t seem as whacko as they are now….and we could speak more freely about things. Maybe I’m just getting older and grumpier. Makes me wonder if LT would even be able to create the outlandish promo-vids in our current climate, without someone losing their minds and getting offended.

They showed very little for 2023 so far, they really need to do runs of the AD10-15 Recon and others in different steels and handle materials like Spyderco does ;i think that would keep them alive and well .

He wouldn't be able to.

Back when I was active on Bladeforums, maybe between 2000 and 2008 or so, there were people here offended by his videos.

Some even made silly virtue-signalling posts about how they were getting rid of all their CS knives because they were so offended by one video or another.

If CS wants a to do something insane ive got the answer, but boy is it a pipe dream, a CS/Busse collaboration ;. an AD10 or 4Max in INFI; id say a trailmaster but it would be unaffordable.

...or it would be a way for Busse to finally build a folder worthy of their stamp.

Can you imagine a 4Max or AD10 in INFI paired with TriAD?!?!! 🤯

the 4Max & AD10 both have the talon holes already ;)

I knew id get you riled up with that one.Boy would that be a knife for the ages.See that would be something epic, ground breaking and on another level.Thats what Cold Steel needs to do....

The barely animated, GSM-owned, zombie corpse of “Cold Steel” died during COVID as far as I can tell. My last buys were 3V SRK’s from Italy. It was “burn the ships” after that.

They came out w a limited edition engage xhp blade carbon fiber handles 349.00 just got the email too much $ i think ….

As long as GSM still offered perennial favorites like the ALM, Recon 1, AD-10, Master Hunter, Shovel, Tuff-Lite, etc., I think they will remain relevant.

They are still great knives.

I hope they create some actual customer service though, as it's important to a lot of folks.
