I'm relatively broad-shouldered, so that would be a factor for me. I looked at Katabatic too, and liked that they're similar to FF with the Pertex and 900fill, but the last time I checked, it seemed that there was still a foot box, vs. the open design of the EE. With the EE, I can open it up entirely and use it as a flat blanket, should I wish. I'll definitely weigh both again when the time comes :thumbup: High cost investments like a nicer bag/quilt and Cuben shelter are a bit down the road for me....

It's nice having a little UL community here at BF :D
 
Falcon Pygmy. Already stuffed and almost ready to go. The weight feels good and it should be spanky with dual Nalgenes topped and the small forest. Set up in case I'm savaged by a squirrel, and have to spend a night.

score! jumbo straws for tinder straws - they're freaking fat at 1/2" diameter...i don't have to keep going to the bubble tea joint in chinatown anymore :)

got my running pack/vest today, Mountain Hardwear Fluid 6- it's a very svelte 9.5 oz (w/o a bladder, probably going w/ a Platy 2.0 liter Hoser) and has quite a bit of room for such a small pack- in the main pack I'll carry an insulating layer, windshirt, beanie, gloves, food, small fak, small fire kit, AMK bivy, map/compass, small camera and Steripen; front pockets will carry headlamp, knife, whistle, shot blocks, salt pills, sunscreen and anti-chafe

I'll let you know how it carries in a couple of days :D

Here's my latest bit of gear. I really like it and Beef sharpened it up right! Very keen edge and I can't wait to experience the benefits of Elmax steel.

The blade is as thin as my Mora 2000 but a touch more flexible due to the full flat grind. It's great for slicing and works well in the kitchen. If it didn't have the finger guard, it would be even better on the cutting board.

Overall, I think it's great and not what I expected from this company with a reputation for bulldozer-type knives. You learn something new everyday.

Also, now I know what all those Busse fans are talking about regarding the handle material. Super stuff so far and reeeeeeally comfortable.

It costed me about $8 dollars per 100 safety razors(100 blades in a pack). I can use one side per side of my face for less than 4 packs in a year. The other stuff is for my kids. lol, tell me I don't like sharp edges. Good times, and thanks for looking.:o

got to try out the Fluid 6 on Sunday w/ a 19 mile run- looks like it's a keeper :D

the vest style really prevents bouncing/jiggling- I can see why these are popular w/ ultra runners; the pack (w/ a full 2.0 liter bladder) carried like a dream

the main pack has plenty of room for a long day adventure, it also has a nice bungee system on the front for additional layers that won't fit in the main pack

the small pockets on the vest portion are easily accessible and there is two stretch pockets on the sides that are large enough for 20-ish oz water bottles- I kept my camera in one and my cell phone in the other

the only thing wanting on this pack is a small mesh pocket inside the main pack- it would be nice to keep things like my FAK, map/compass, TP etc separated from the main pack- I might be able to rig something up

Cool, thanks for the follow-up :thumbup: Definitely looks like something worth checking out. I've been getting more interested in trail-running recently. It's soo much more fun than running elsewhere. I feel like I run better because I'm constantly engaged by my environment.

Just a little 19miler... Training to be the next Scott Jurek? :D
 
yeah I don't run on roads (or a track or a treadmill), running outdoors is no different than hiking- you're just covering more ground :D

I don't know if there will be another Scott Jurek, but am certain it won't be me :)
 
Wifey stole my first new Condor Keppie and folk-art patinad it and wouldn't give it back, so I went and got another :)

for people who are having problems with bow-drill, i recommend heading to lowes and pick up poplar.

I'd been thinking about doing just that! Getting a some wood boards amd dowels from a hardware store to at least get the technique down.

Bryan- my gaiters do! :D made by Dirty Girl, can't recommend them enough for a lightweight gaiter to keep the dirt/rocks/seeds/etc out of your trail runners
