Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Hopefully, if I'm ever stuck in the woods and need a friction fire, there's a Lowes nearby ;)

:D

i'm going to stop-by the liquor store for maker's mark first...for all i know that's what got me my first coal :D

As the last bastion of frugality and thrift amongst this horde of credit card-slinging equipment worshipers, I have foregone pursuing any kind of attachable carbon element whatchamacallit solutions for my Sawyer filter's inability to fix the taste of nasty water, and settled on MioEnergy "liquid water enhancer" instead. One of my coworkers got me to try this stuff, and he keeps several bottles of it at work. I like all the flavors I've tried, but in the event of gross water from a stagnant pool, I'm calling down the Green Thunder!

frogg toggs poncho...warm weather rain protection for 8oz and $10. I've been keeping it in my truck when not in my pack, and had to use it a couple of times. Fairly compact, and has snaps down the sides, so it's almost like having a sleeve at the top, and moves with you. Works pretty good. I don't think the material will hold up to much, but it's waterproof, and does seem breathable. Didn't feel clammy on the skin in short term use, anyway.
The little 4oz Nalgene flask was actually bought awhile back, but I just got it out to use this week(fuel for 2 meals plus coffee/tea with the alcohol stove in there).

Just got these from a site clearing them out at a great price. They are Bark river made black jack knives model 12 and model 13, already owned the top one

no pictures now but i picked up today an ultralight pillow. call me soft/pansy but sleeping on my pack and/or clothes isn't as comfortable as a pillow

HYOH, whatever works for you  Sleeping comfort is a big deal, especially if your goal is mileage.

I use my poncho and any extra clean clothes (usually socks and beanie) and sometimes synthetic puffy stuffed in my little clothes dry-bag, and the dry-bag is sleeved with my wool buff for a more comfortable surface feel. I use my day clothes on one side of my pad to counteract the dropped shoulder/arm issue we broad torso folks often experience.

I've thought about trying an UL pillow, which one did you get?

ETA: Gregorio, nice!

And to think you could have had the real thing (Randall #14) for the combined price of all those three. :p

:D

I recently put together an Alice Hellcat on a the down east 1606ac frame. Usually meant to be used with a medium alice pack, which I got. I also picked up a Large alice pack for 6 dollars. There was some question as to if it would fit on the frame or not with the sleep system carrier. It does. It is a little bit saggy, but I think I can just sew a bit of webbing a little higher up on the pack for the sleep system carrier to loop through and it will be nice and perky. I'll still be using it mostly with the medium pack, but its a nice 6 dollar modification to convert it into a HUGE pack.

yeah, sort of puts it in perspective. I think I could have gotten four of them for the price of a Randall.

Well, I don't have it in my grubby little hands yet, but I am so excited that this one is done and will be on its way to me that I had to post pics :D After the bushcrafter challenge, I became pretty infatuated with the one made by Bruce Culberson. So after thinking on it for a long while, I finally pulled the trigger and asked him to make me one. I should have it next week or so, and I can't wait to get it out for some use.

Sorry, just saw this. It was at Wal-Mart, alongside some frogg toggs rainsuits. I'm keeping it in the pouch it comes in, just like in my pic, since it doesn't add noticeable size or weight. My "big scale" isn't very exact, but shows a hair under 8oz without the pouch, a hair over with it.

I have a lot of merino socks, but Smartwool's lightweight PhD is my favorite for hiking.
Hard to resist STP's double coupons sometimes, and I got 8 new pair of PhDs plus another Terramar Helix shirt, which is as good as it gets for being cool and breathable.

Do women on the trail ever tell you that you have a big bag ?;) I have an old surplus bag like that also, behind the other crapola. Had to put this pic in to brag up my little hatchet. Maybe if I have enough stuff hanging off the pack, nieve individuals that I meet will think that I know something. :D

The warden grabbed me a little Wetterlings hatchet today. I already have it Linseed oiled and the sheath slathered in Dubbin. Cute lil booger and it feels great in hand. Should be great fun to combo with one of those little portable stoves.

Cool JV3. I almost grabbed a couple of Companions a little while ago, still might. I believe in orange for some gear.

Hmm, no. It's not quite doing it yet. Sure, with the axe you may intimidate somebody into saying so, but to be honest you need to do some more work yet.
Try adding a compass and a couple strings of ranger beads. as many as you can string off it. Maybe hang a Kuksa off it as well.

Where did you get it? Only place I know that has wetterlings is workwear canada, and they're a little pricey. Who is this "Warden" you speak of.
