Roy
Hey, that's awesome & priceless!!!! Several years ago, the elementary school my nieces & nephew went to, had a little store where they could take money to & buy Christmas presents for their family without the family members knowing. My nephew & oldest niece both bought me fishing lures. Granted they weren't but about a buck a piece, but they thought enough of their uncle to go out of their way to surprise me with! I've never used 'em, & would cry if I lost one of 'em, so the rest safely in my safe & will stay there til I die!!!

just got my all-black manix 2 s30v today and ordered a super rare all-black para-military 2 (been looking for one for a week, finally got lucky!)...it's been a good end to the week :D

Yeah, I've had my eye on the LD01 as a replacement for my keychain Quark for a while now, but the Quark keychain attachment had to break when I'm dropping money on Xmas gifts:rolleyes:. So I just wanted something inexpensive for the time being. The low low is one of the big reasons I want the LD01 (and the firefly Thrunite Ti or the T10) btw, so useful. As for the stainless, yeah, I hear it's just so much tougher (my keychain light sees a little more abuse than my other lights) but with a weight compromise. I figure I can always sell it off pretty easily if it doesn't work out. I don't carry anything in my back pockets anymore, all front carry, so I prefer having it attached (and easily detachable) on my keychain. Do you carry your AAA lights on a lanyard in your pocket? I'd probably forget it's there at some point and send it through the wash.

HikingMano: I don't know how I missed your post from several weeks ago, so I apologize for not responding sooner.

I have never used a lanyard for my LD01. I carry it in my back pocket, and it's so small I really don't notice it there. I bought an AA light (XENO E03), but it was MUCH larger and there was no way I could carry it there. I ended up losing that light out of a tool pocket in some carpenter jeans. I've never lost my light out of my back pocket, and it's always there.

One of these days I'll switch over to rechargeables with primaries only as emergency use, I just haven't gotten around to it. Do 10440s hold their charge for a while? I haven't looked into rechargeable batteries in a long time.:D

My 10440's seem to hold a charge for a decent amount of time. I bought a smart charger from BatteryJunction for $15 or so, and put my batteries on there every few days just to make sure they're fully charged. I don't know how long they will last, but I've been doing it for several months so far.

One note: the LDO1 has a very nice low level on alkaline AAA's, but on 10440's the low is about 100 lumens. I just about blinded myself walking around the dark house this morning, when I turned my light on to get something to eat. I really miss the low level, but having about 180 lumens on the medium setting is absolutely wonderful for most of what I do.

My next light will be a Jetbeam Raptor RRT0 XML with the variable brightness ring. I already have 14500 cells to use in it to get the full 550 lumens, but it will still dial down to around 1 lumen for the low which will be nice. I just wish there was a light with the same features in AAA size!

Sweet looking blade.

No worries, Mountainman, we all have actual lives to live :D

Anyway, yeah, I can't say I've lost anything either out of a back pocket, but I have lost stuff out of front/side pockets. It's one reason I carry my Vic farmer on a lanyard attached to my belt.

Thanks for the info on the cells (bump to 100 lumens on low in LD01... *whistle*) and giving me a new light to look into :D. Variable brightness lights are sweet. 550 with the XML and in the AA form factor... stupid bright! I'm guessing your Battery Junction charger handles both Li-ions?

I got an upgraded version of my Fisarks 14" hatchet kydex cover, so if anyone has a 14" fiskars hatchet and is willing to pay shipping, you can have the sheath pictured below. Nothing at all wrong with it, and it's actually slightly easier to use than my newer one. Just make sure you have a 14" hatchet. I don't know if it fits the newer X line of fiskars hatchets (X7 I think), and I don't know if it fits any other fiskars or Gerber equivalents. I'm checking on it now. But if you have one of the older, pre-X7, 14" Fiskars and are willing to pay for shipping, it's yours

Following up on the offer above.

The sheath won't fit the X7, but it should fit these:
Gerber Sport Axe I
Fiskars 8″ (Mini/Handy 500)
Gerber Back Paxe I
Gerber Back Paxe II
Fiskars X5

Western Mountaineering? That would be WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY superior to Mountain Hardwear and *definitely* cause for celebration!!!!

I've seen threads on various forums some saying Maxp some saying Snugpak.........but I have a suspicion it was Maxpedition...?. I got the Proteus after selling on my Condor 2 and needing something to put the few pouches I had left on, and after seeing the Snugpak response pack it was my opinion that the Proteus has the slight edge on build quality.

@lathe dog
What is the name of knife in the picture?
Looks great!

The knife is a custom from one of the makers here in the UK who goes by the name of Longstrider on the forums. The knife is actually a copy of the one in use by the maker for all his camp duties, which he has named his "Moot Iron"
