Your favorite modified knives that you camp/hunt/fish/pack/ whatever, and any other modded knives:thumbup:

A little description would be cool!;) And any of you that are good at getting coatings off please chime in on techniques for that. Somewhere I saw a RAT knife that someone had just gotten the coating to pop right off in what looked to be a big flake.

Ive posted most of mine up before but heres a few...

I got a great deal on this Bark River Gameskeeper II with a big gnarly Sheep Horn handle.

But I hated the huge ricasso, and I knew there was a knife that would suit my style of usage hidden inside.

Here are a few photos.

Mine mics @ 0.194 at the ricasso. They're not all the same thickness; there's some at 0.14, some at more than 0.25

Mine cuts really well (edge slightly reprofiled), but it's not a "slicer" :D

Big mike. Holy bat s**t sheep man! Thats awesome dude, awesome.

Thank you my friend.

What makes it even more awesome for me is that those oversized convoluted handle scales fit my hand like a glove.

It’s a keeper!!!

to remove the coatings i just remove the scales and soak the blade in a pan , covered with liquid paint stripper for several hours. The coating bubble rights off and rinses off with hot water. I then wash the blade with dishsoap, slather on some mustard for patina and thats it.

This was one of my first projects back in high school. It's not really a mod because I bought the ka-bar blade and guard and sheath as a kit. The sheath in the pic is a newer Ka-bar plastic deal; the original leather one is around here somewhere... The handle is scales of red/black pakkawood, I cut the mortises to fit the tang with a pocketknife and file - never again! It's only held on with super glue (never again ) but surprisingly, it has pounded many a tent stake and no failure yet...

I've done alot of mods in the past but no longer do them. Not enough time. Here's a Cold Steel Trailmaster I modded with an elk antler handle, stainless guard and pommell cap.

I have a kabar kuhkri that needs the ugly scraped off it. Ill have to give that a shot. To bad I cant get the handle off though...

Heres a project ive been workin on slowly. A Busse BATAC. So far Ive stripped it, and polished the grey off the blade. I used Klean Strip for the strip job, and since these pics its been scotchbrited, and im starting the convex edge. Its coming out good. Ill snap some pics when its done....

Hey Jake, is that what the blade looked like right after you stripped it? I like that look. Also, what are those scales?
Scott

Yeah Scott. Its only been rinsed with hot water in that pic. I was very suprised at the condition underneath. It was really nice!!

Scalesare black and tan G10. I dunno why, but the stripper lightened the black in the G10. its almost grey now. Looks cool though. Soon I ill have matcing scales for my 1911.

Oh no!! Not at all bro!!

No gap under the scales either. It soaked in KS-3 for 10 minutes, and the coating washed right off, the scales lightened slightly, but not much at all. G10 is great stuff!!
