Here's my Busse SAR5

Ground down the butt, left some of the tang protruding from the butt, skeletonized the tang, full convexed zero edge, flattened the spine (removed some of the swedge)

Killer pilot's knives, pimpnugget and BarberFobic! I love those things, just wish the HT was a little harder. But they can cut real well if you convex them a bit and the sheaths are great. You've inspired me to dig mine out and clean her up... pics to follow.

Did you make the tram sheath? If so, what did you use? Process, etc? Great Mod on the Pilot knife by the way:thumbup:

yup, i made it. its PVC that i heated up and formed to the blade, then i put some tough fabric around it.
i did that to mine...it looks very good underneath. I'll try and find the pic

A little description would be cool!And any of you that are good at getting coatings off please chime in on techniques for that. Somewhere I saw a RAT knife that someone had just gotten the coating to pop right off in what looked to be a big flake.

I don't care for the thick ugly coatings a lot of knives have on them at all, so I've stripped several.
The three knives I've stripped so far are shown below.
In order from top to bottom, they are a RAT3, a RAT7, and an SS4.
Here's another view:

I used some sort of generic paint stripper from Home Depot to remove the coats. I first took the handle scales off the RAT's, then applied a thick coat of the stripper. Let it sit for awhile, then spent a bunch of time scrubbing the stripper and coating from the blades. Finally, I used medium then fine grit sand paper to get the last of the coating off.
I like my RAT's far better now, and they're much more useful. I just plain don't like the SS4, so it gets no use whatever. Kinda sucks, since it's the most expensive knife I've bought!

I dropped the point on my RAT 1 folder to get the length under the local carry law limit of 3.5" and added dual thumb studs for ambidextrous use. I polished the blade too.
I like the looks of the drop point better anyway. This has been a good tough knife and I EDC it often. I like the large handle and finger choil.
How about turning a 3/4" spade drill bit into a harpoon point?
An easy one-- added Stayglow scales to my Victorinox Trekker and Hiker.

The D2 Rat knives have a crinkle coat that comes right off with paint stripper, the other ones have a different type of coating that's unaffected by stripper.

Great line! I just may steal that one day...
This is the best factory knife I've owned so far. I've tested it a great deal and it performs like a champ. Cold Steel Master Hunter, "Carbon V" steel. All I did was put a mild convex edge on it, mustard-blue the blade and zip-tie a pouch to the sheath for the stone and magnesium/ferro rod thingy. Oh yeah, I enlarged the mini "choil" a bit, for scraping magnesium. No sense dulling your edge on that stuff!
