You right NC ,it's "inspirational" that's gonna be the next mod in one of my 9's the only thing that is stopping me now is the lack of time, already have the right tools, it would be perfect if i can do it by this holidays.Yeah, I've been wanting that exact mod minus the choil about ever since I got my nine, only Friday I finally bought a grinder/sander so this is right on time lol. Perfect inspiration (copy hehe)
Now, when will I get around to it?
Well...it still in the work van and the 9 is MIA, so...
What equipment are you working with? Looks real clean, esp the choil.
I have several guard nubs that gotta go and at least 2 ramps. I got a pneumatic cutoff wheel and a 1x30. All my previous mods have been by hand with sand paper and files.

Thank u Sir, and don't stop posting your jobs so we can keep learning from them.I still have all my knife making equipment from back when I was still able to make them. Most of this was done simply with a good file. The thumb ramp removal and changing the front profile of the spine was done using only the file. The choil was done with my Foredom (expensive dremel LOL) and different bits (A 1" cutoff wheel and a 1/2" and 1/4" sanding drum) taking my time and keeping my fingers close to the work the whole time to make sure the blade didn't heat up too much. If it starts getting anywhere near too hot to hold onto STOP, the heat will continue to build even after you stop so take your time stopping often to let the steel cool.
Hope that helps a little.
Dude, "inspiratonal" is a big word... ya might make my head swell up. LOL
Seriously though thank you, that's very kind of you to say! To feel like I've inspired someone to work on a knife means more to me than I can say after years of not touching a blade!!! I love helping people and it's good therapy for me to feel like I'm still useful for something even If I'm not able to make knives any longer.
Followed your advice and just order my first bk4, there was this online store with a nothing bad 28% discount that was impossible not to get it,can't not have it, right? posting pics at arrival!Ahh I see. Sorry bout that...
You must've barely missed the group buy and the two promos @ Ka-Bar.com
But, hey...don't let that stop you!
If you plan to strip it just etch it out.
Since I started doing that I'm not even looking for stamped ones anymore...except for that one 17 that'll be here tomorrow heh...and I'll be keeping an eye out for an 11 after Christmas...
Ok, I get it...but still...you better grab an etched one before they're gone too, or you'll be paying premiums for whatever you can get yer hands on!
Nice, i like the way those scales came out.

I have the same sheath. Haven't noticed any dulling and I think that the have stopped making it with gfn. Which is good because I like the sheath design. Very thin and versatile. My new Christmas blade! The 14 seems like an all around nice piece of steel. Crazy sharp! I feel like this blade should be able to do it all while being super light weight and manageable.

Does the this model sheath still dull the blade? I haven't noticed the knife being dulled. And it feels somewhat soft to be gfn.
