Postal Service. Anyone else dealing with shipping delays?

Once the package reaches my hometown post office, it’s delivered promptly without fail.

Getting it to my hometown is where the problems lie. The delay is almost always caused by sending it across the country to a location that makes no geographical sense considering its final destination.

Then it comes back to the place that misrouted it and we have to start all over again.

It’s gotten so bad that I’ve learned to expect this kind of misrouting. Happens more often than not here lately.

I'm currently having problems with packages getting to my USPS hub <Nashville> and just sitting there...wtf is up with that? 🤷‍♂️

We're not under any weather delays or anything like that...

USPS service for the last year has been poor. It seems every time I’ve paid for Express/1 Day, it has been 2 or 3 days. And pretty much a similar experience with UPS expedited delivery.

Also, my regular carrier is on medical leave for 3 months. So far, every day has been an adventure. Delivered early, or late, or not at all for that day.

Yup. Things have sat in Baton Rouge distribution center for up to a week before making it to my local PO for delivery. Then the snow storm down here shut everything down for 2 or 3 days. Had two packages “weather delayed” and only ones made it so far. The other (oil filters for my Shelby that I NEED) are still weather delayed with no idea when they’ll get here. Snow been gone….

All of my customers waited 21+ days for their December orders to be delivered via USPS Priority.

One customer waited, I believe, 36 days.

We are witnessing the collapse of our institutions before our eyes.

Things seem ok here, but only 2 recent outgoing shipments to go by. One sent out on 12/16 from MA to CA and it got there on the 19th. Another sent last Friday to FL and it is showing out for delivery today. Have one inbound from SC so we'll see how long that takes. As of Sat it is showing that the label was created.

I've had mixed results. DLT's post office and local distribution center seems to be back online, and my last order from them was on a Friday and arrived Monday.

However, this month I mailed one to Virginia by Priority Mail that took 11 calendar days, and one to Michigan that took 9 calendar days, and I received one from Arkansas by Priority Mail that took 10 calendar days.

I don't usually have too many issues with the USPS. In the past, my issues had stemmed from my mail carrier marking parcels as "Delivery Attempted". I work from home, have a camera system and so I know they never showed up. I finally had enough of that and called my Post Office one day and they called up the mail carrier right there with me still on the line and they called them out on it. I haven't had that issue since.

Fast forward to now and I am watching a knife that originated in OK and is taking quite the tour. (I reside in Oregon so I should have received it the day after it arrived in Portland)

Almost everything I've ordered in the past few weeks has been delayed. When I check tracking it usually says due to weather. I even had a package returned to sender because USPS would not accept it because of wildfires.

Most of my delays have been in the in-between sections of the journey. Boots on the ground have not be an issue, at all. That said, since late December I have seen a big improvement in shipping speed.

We are short staffed and Hell, you can only walk so much in a day. Forcing people to work 12 hours a day and 60 hours a week gets old quickly.
If you have the same person delivering your mail you should know their name. Introduce yourself. It will go a long way.
^ This! Get to know your carrier if you can and let them know you appreciate their hard work. The issues with the USPS are at the top, not with the workers. (Yes, there are exceptions, of course.)

Yes, yes and yes. I live in Alabama, and there was some sort of consolidation of distribution centers in 2024. It has been a complete mess ever since the change. I switched over to using UPS due to so many issues.

Yes! They tried this as a test in several cities and it’s beef dreadful.

USPS has been exceptionally slow on regular mail, lost one envelope of mine but other than that everything showed up. The envelope they lost only had a PDS set of 1938 Jefferson's in it so it wasn't a huge loss... But still sucks.

Anyways, packages have been on point. Priority is solid and ground advantage seems to be a day or two behind.

Out of the hundreds of packages and letters I've mailed over the last decade there are only two incidents. One was with a stolen package (stolen from USPS) and this recent envelope with the nickels that may still turn up some time.

The postal service has really fallen apart in the last year ive had, and my friend has had packages that almost got to their destination, got turned around came all the way back and went back to its destination again. One package was stalled for 3 weeks in a sorting facility, from dec 23rd to mid january. Now you see why they dont say 2-3 days for priority shipping anymore; that boat sailed! I sent a knife to a guy in NC he was sure it got stolen cause it happened to him in the past; sat for a week at the facility luckily it finally moved and he got it. This is the postal service for you ; overwelmed and understaffed......

It's really a shame what happened to the USPS. There was a time where priority mail was all but guaranteed to get to you in 2 days. But just this week I had 3 packages shipped via USPS. 2 priority and one ground advantage. The ground advantage one was shipped last, and so far is the only one to have shown up, actually arriving a day early. As for the priority mail, one is stuck in a nearby town, and the other just says "moving through the network." so who knows where that one is right now, but it was *supposed* to be here today and my mailman has come and gone with no sign of it so that ship has obviously sailed. It's quite frustrating. My local post office is great, but the network as a whole seems to be rapidly failing.

This has been an interesting journey. After spending 5 days in New Orleans, it finally made its way to... St. Rose, a mere 30-40 minutes away. So far, we are going on over two week since it left OK and though it came close when it arrived in Portland, the fates thought it better to continue a tour of the country before it graces my doorstep.

Not mad, mostly just amused at this point. Not much one can do besides laugh, I guess.
