How you think a Japanese/Okinawan(and it shows, I'm a hairy mother F***er!) would look in a kilt?

It's fine to maintain tradition. But there's no reason why one has to be denied the benefits of another culture. If you use your logic, you should not be wearing a pair of jeans unless you're an American. The UtiliKilts do not mock the traditional kilts in that they do not use tartans, and come with pockets. They are about as far from Scottish kilts as they can be. I've worn it to a Highland game in NY and I've be told they're not real kilts. Well, that's fine by me. They're not real kilts. It's a very modern American interpertation of a wonderful garment. If the problem is being only Scottish to wear the kilts, then there's a problem there too. The Scots are not the only ones to wear a kilt. Most of the Gaulish nations wore one version or another for hundred of years, and they still do today. But it's the Scots who wore them daily. And because of that I'll always appreciate the Scots with being open minded enough to say, "buggers with pants, these are more comfortable", just so that today, I can wear something similar with no clan affliation and without mocking their culture. At this point, I understand the joy of wearing a un-bifurcated garment. I'll wear a sarong with the same enthusiasm as I would the UK. And if they come out with a modern interpertation of the Chinese male Cheong Sum (which my father wore up until WWII) I'll probably jump at that as well. All those garments are male in origin, so again, I will not be cross dressing. You certain have a fixation on that concept. The kilt is one of those "Don't knock it until you try it" type of garments. And there are no sexual issues with a kilt. It's universally accepted as a male garment. I fail to see why you can't grasp that.MelancholyMutt said:Well, MicMurry, I think of it this way...
There are cultural things that should be preserved for members of the culture. I think it's great that those of Scottish ancestry still wear the kilt.
I think those of an entirely different culture to wear a kilt outside of a cultural event is only a poor excuse to crossdress and entirely tasteless, almost mocking of the culture (which is what Vampyrewolf stated to me).
And yet your words speak otherwise.MelancholyMutt said:I grasp the concept,
Don't disagree. Maybe it's time for another change, but we'll just keep the wife beating in the stone ages.MelancholyMutt said:but times have changed and what was once acceptable, like beating your wife, has become a little less so.
I did......MelancholyMutt said:I do silly things too and I expect people to tell me it's silly.
No problem. My invite's still open...MelancholyMutt said:Now, I dare you say that to my face!![]()

I only have one improvement. That they be at least adjustable 1" either way. The only negative to the UK's is that if your weight changes dramatically, your only recourse is to buy more in the new size. I'm so sold on the Survival that I'm thinking of selling my Neo's and just go with them. The new fabric is durable, comfortable, and should wear well. As for other UK's, I wish they would bring back the Tux. I'm obligated to attend a few Black & White events a year that it would worth my while. And I'm still championing them to make one out of good British Moleskin for the winter months.edgetrip said:So I am curious how my fellow uk wearers would improve upon the design. I love my standard and there is a workman in my future, how could uk make there stuff better? What sorts of varients would you like, fabric, pockets, closure, colors?
