Well, I did my first real YouTube vids today.
Just out messing around with the Machax.
https://www.youtube.com/user/Beckerhead191

I think eventually I'd like to go through most of the BK&T line and review, test, and offer up thoughts.
YouTube needs more Becker vids.
That was a fun video, but I can tell by the number of times that rectangular branch (what kind of tree is that anyway?) almost slipped off your picnic table that you haven't paid attention to Moose in the skills video this month . And the way you're bending over while chopping? Oh, my aching back. Just wait until you're older...the curmudgeon has spoken.

my first "decent" knife was a Gerber Gator folding blade. It was a hell of a knife and it is currently sitting at the bottom of Lake Erie. Long story there... After that I went through a series of Kershaws. The Leek is STILL one of my favorite gentleman folders, to this day.

My first decent knife was also a Gerber, which, like you...I lost. It's probably still in the middle of the "Back 40" at Fort Campbell.

Yeah, that was the first video I did today and was kind of a "spur of the moment" type of thing.
If I do anymore chopping I'll be sure to have the wood secured and will be wearing a lanyard too.

Cool vids Jonny. I had a BK4, but never used it, and sold it. I was never really too interested in them, but decided to get it because it was the thing everyone else was doing at the time, haha. I may end up getting another at some point. I just figured it couldn't do anything the 9 couldn't do.

Looks good man start to finish. The Machax will see you through.

I'm going to use it for the Nov. fire challenge tonight.
I struck out last night with an old chunk of walnut.
I found a soaked piece of Doug fir and I'm gonna give it a go.
We'll see what happens...lol.

You do know that I was snarking, right? Dang, I wish there was some font for that. Not snarking: It was a cool vedeo, showed that you don't have to swing that thing very hard to take a good bite.
If you need a lanyard, I put three in the BK&T PIF thread this afternoon. One could be yOurs...

my first good blade was also a gerber gator, issued to me 12 years ago and currently sleeping in a pouch on my duty belt as a backup, ocasionally opened now and then, proven workhorse. After that one I was awarded a CRKT M-16 tanto and got so hooked with the flipper that I wore out the contact point at the tang and it wouldn't stay locked. This was before they came out with the auto-lock.

No problem buddy, can't go wrong with a BK4.

May the best BECKERHEAD win! Good luck!

I'm really not a fan of the Auto-LAWKS system. It's very awkward.

Come to think of it, my first decent blade (and first fixed blade) that I bought for myself was also a Gerber, but it was a Blackie Collins Clip, single edge partially serrated. Still have it...rides around on my kayaking vest, 25 years in and out of saltwater still sharp as heck. I still have a couple of Wenger SAK's that were gifts, and that's what I carried as a kid. Raided the SAK display at this store I worked at when they stopped carrying them...no toothpicks in the 2 or 3 that I ended up with. Of all the folders that I had before that Gerber, I have only one left - Buck 110. Can't seem to part with it even though the tip is broken and the bolsters are all oxidized. I don't even remember how it came into my possession; I think I traded something bicycle related for it with a friend of mine. Enough rambling down memory lane...I gotta go eat something.

my Buck 110 was a pass down from my granddad when he passed. No way in HELL that is ever leaving my possession.

I think it would be pretty cool to do a secret santa type thing here in beckerville.

not sure how it would work though, when i did it at my old job everyone picked a name out a jar.... here thats not really possible

But if there was a way to figure out how to keep it secret it could be fun.

Like I said earlier, I always like meeting fellow Beckerheads and knife people in general. Today, Jerry D. here on the forums came by, whatta cool afternoon. Jerry has a Magua on order that I just got into one piece. I took him in the gringing room and showed him how I profile the handles and even let him try his hand at it, after that we finished it out by hand all of which Jerry helped with. Its not often the customer is right here to make sure the fit to the hand is just how they want it. Jerry is a natural!
If all of that wasn't cool enough, Jerry brought us a couple of growlers from Sunking brewery which we all enjoyed with a tasty pizza from a local joint. Good day, good beer, great company!.........and Murph didn't even clog my toilet!

That's....a good idea, WW. We do that with my in-laws; MY MIL and/or my SIL write everyone's name on a slip of paper and drop them into different envelopes for all the participants. I don't know how they don't pick themselves, I assume they end up knowing the "secret" part now and then. There's a price cap so no one spends too much....it seems like it would be very difficult to implement here, though. I'm gonna give it some thought.

Dang! Strike two and three tonight on the Nov. fire challenge.
Using soaked wood for a one stick fire has turned out to be a challenge indeed.
But you can't keep this dog down!
I'll try again every night after work till I get it.
I have now taken out a personal vendetta on this wet one stick fire challenge!

You mean.....Jerry came by? WoOw! That was a smart idea for him to bring the growlers to make sure you guys stayed lubricated....and to make sure there weren't any sober grinding incidents. Congrats to Jerry D. on his new TM Hunt Magua. You are a very magnanimous (alert: WOTD) guy to let a customer into your shop and to use your tools, Todd. Not many people would do that. Sounds like a great time all around.

Haha, well, fortunately for me, Jerry isn't a idiot, I told him where not to put his fingers if he wanted to go home with them. :D Jerry has had a invite to come by the shop for a long time, he just finally took me up on it. The funny thing is, I think he wanted to prove that Murph and I are not just a couple of drunken morons making knives out of a backyard toolshed. Now that's hes been here, He KNOWS for fact that were just a couple of drunken morons making knives out of a backyard toolshed. Haha! :D

I didn't find it awkward, but I did think it was unnecessary so I took it out of mine.

I don't recall my first knife, but I have my first Ka-Bar. The original Warthog. Love that knife. Really wish they'd bring that back.
