Presale for GSO 5.1's

Can't decide if I'd rather have the 8. One thing I DO know... You'd obviously never have a problem selling these knives. They are like hot cakes. The spyderco's of fixies.

Just got my order in....there was no way I wasn't gonna take advantage of this now! :D

There hasn't been an announcement since we haven't officially announced that the GSO-5.1s are even in stock.

We are moving away from the ferro notches because of how time consuming they have become, and because they really aren't necessary anymore. The fit and finish on these new blades is so tight that if anything is a hair off the ferro notch won't look perfectly squared off. It may sound silly to some users, but it is something we heard a lot about, in relation to the laser lines of the past. They have to be done very carefully, taking Guy away from production for longer.

For the bow drill divots, we are working on a couple ideas for replacing those with better options. The divot is designed as a just in case sort of thing. They don't hold up through too many uses and we have seen a few get burned through completely.

Part of the plan we are working on includes the addition of a new "Series" where more options will be available. Things like ferro rods or 90 degree spines, brass bow drill divots, custom engraving...
Disclaimers:
1: We are still working on the details
2: They are going to cost a bit more, depending on how customized you go
3: This won't be available until preorders have all been fulfilled, at least. Right now our focus is on production and being as efficient as possible.

Got to love the brass divots!

This is awesome news! I've always liked the idea of the brass divot insert and the engraving will be great for added personalization.

I was glad to see your order go through. I remembered you saying you had to wait until Fri but I knew they would go quickly once the newsletter went out. I can't help with the wife part.

Thanks Ellie! I also had an AM dentist appointment and that made me temporarily forget... luckily not for too long. Thanks again for all you guys do! (** I am sure she will forgive me in time)

I've been thinking about all this information and since there wasn't anything radical and new mentioned in the First Friday newsletter, I'm wondering, does this some up the changes you alluded to the other week? The post here about making changes that will make you and Guy happier?

Anything that helps speed and streamline production sounds good to me. The "new series" with the extra options sounds like a great way to take care of the very discerning customers who want to pay and maybe wait more for something really specific.

Also, in a weird way, I'm glad for you both that you felt comfortable to charge extra for upgrades with the 5.1 sales. Now I won't feel like a bandit when I want something special on a knife after the presales!

Its easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

Im torn! I WANT a 7/7 or 8 and a 12.

Notice the word want. I do not Need. I know my preferred blades are no longer than 6 inches. I like to carry a folding saw to save weight and like a 'hawk even better, if I am going to need to chop. And weight isnt an issue. The weight bothers me because I always carry a pistol. So a beast knife and a loaded glock 21 get unnecessarily heavy for something like a day long grouse hunting trip. I firmly believe that knives arent for chopping (unless its a kukri), not even really for batoning. I have had many large knives and always sell them. Plus I have been crushing overtime lately (hence my lack of contributions to the Trophy Room thread) and went into a blade frenzy. Im waiting on a Two hawks longhunter, my GSO 5.1 preorder, a gerber strong arm (which was an impulse buy) and 3 Busse's (2 of which are going to be sold once I figure out which one I like best) and a Freeman Outdoors Necker. Damn... Reading what I just wrote makes me realize that life is good, but I need to stop blowing cash on knives. Interestingly enough, I have been noticing a huge cross over in the Busse/Survive! Customer base.

Out of everything I am waiting on. The 5.1 is the one I am most excited for amd if I had to pick only one blade from my entire fixed blade collection, all brands... The 5.1 would be my keeper. Seeing the sample at Edgeworks only solidified that choice even more.

I just got released from the hospital. I ran home and just grabbed a 5.1. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get my iphone to work from my room last night and this morning. I was afraid I was going to miss out. :) I have pneumonia.

Sean Michael! Welcome to the forum! You arent a wrestling fan are you?

Nice score on the 5.1

We seriously typed that at almost the exact same time!
What does this say about us as husbands??? ;)

Whoa, hope you keep recovering. Must feel good to be home.

On another note, an unscientific study showed a strong correlation between CPM steel and strengthened immune function :)

Isn't that the truth, and luckily for me the wife asked if she could buy a somewhat pricey purse today...(I should comment she is not a girly girl...but occasionally is) O couldn't have been happier to support her purchase hahaha...oh man.

Riz, you are right about the cross over. I also just bought a HogMuk and have "on order" 3 bussekin knives, and I just got popped for the july ganza on Wednesday (why i had to wait until friday for the 5.1). I still have more GSO's than any other brand, and will likely add a few more when the other pre-sales hit. I think the large knives are just fun in a visceral way, part of why I'm helping push the gso 20...no one needs that, BUT it sure would be fun...I am really happy the remaining GSO's wont pop until the new year, my checking account has been scorching money lately!!

The heart break kid himself!!! get better man! a 5.1 can cure a lot of things but im not sure it can fix pneumonia!

There will be more... They just released a few of the spare blades. Once preorders are delivered they will open up the remainder of the unpurchased 5.1s. Keep a sharp eye and be ready at the drop of a hat to order
