I wonder what it feels like to have created a product that is so sought after that it CANNOT stay in stock despite all efforts taken?! Probably through best compliment a craftsman can receive :thumbup:

Guy said on Facebook that if you preordered with a notch you will get a notch. It is just something that will not be available one presales and regular sales.
 
I took a break from watching the survive website for the sale and boom I miss out. Knowing my luck I'll miss the official sale too :(

That is why i suck it up and pre-order. I know I can sell a GSO on the exchange for little to no loss.
 
I heard about Survive! knives recently and sold a Busse to fund a pre-order of a 7/7. Then today I notice the 5.1 presale. So of course I ordered a 5.1, CPM-20CV, Black G-10, tumbled fasteners and black kydex. I thought I was going to be waiting months to see my first GSO, I'm stoked. Really looking forward to my first Survive! Knife.

A question about the steel, is there a preference to CPM-3V over CPM-20CV?

You timed that like a boss! Some of us made orders in April and some have been waiting for a new GSO for longer than that. You lucky rat ;)

Check out a few of the threads here for really good discussion on the choice of steel.

The short answer is 20cv is truly stainless and 3v trades some corrosion resistance for toughness and ease of sharpening. I have a feeling you're going to be really happy with your purchase :thumbup:

Hey man, welcome to the forum. Nah, I doubt you miss it when these hit the site after the preorders are filled. Ellie said it was a big run of 5.1s so you should be good.

lots of discussions on this topic here and the real answer is probably just "both are super high end steels" The big difference is that 20cv is more corrosion resistant and 3V is more impact resistant. Depending on what you want to do with your knife one might have slight advantages over the other. Unless you are an edge case, I think you will be happy with either.

Thanks for the info guys. Yes, I need to do some reading but I may have to pick up a 3V in Jan.
 
The 5.1 presale is over. Neither steel choice is available and the "presale for the holidays" message is gone from the 5.1 page. Sounds like some eager beavers got their purchases in :thumbup:

I know there are still folks hungry for a GSO, but I'm loving how things are moving along in production. Bring on the 4.7's!
