Price you absolutely refuse to pay no matter how good the knife is

Apparently for me it is around 300 dollars. i can carry that knife. I have one that's in the 500 dollar range. In the safe it sits... As In knarfeng noted I would be beside myself if something happened to that one. This meshes nicely with a thread I will start shortly. I'm curious about what people think about knife prices and knife inflation.

I have a very hard time justifying anything over $300. I have a bunch over that, and that’s how I know I have a hard time with it.

That seems to be my personal number where I’m going “will this damn thing do anything the others won’t?”🤔

Once the price gets over $100 I get real picky. I have a few blades in the $400-$600 range and several in the $200-$400 range. Several more in the $100-$200 range. None were bought lightly, and all see a lot of use.

As far as a limit goes, I cannot see myself spending over $1k on a knife. And any blade I buy in the $300-$1k range must SERIOUSLY appeal to me. There are some Gossmans and some Becks I would gladly drop a grand on. There’s some others too.

Depends. I often have hard time paying 50€ but I also have 350€ custom order for next year (half paid in advance). So far I haven’t bought new knives this year (besides the custom order).

Paid $550 for a striped platan sebenza 21. Will never sell it, and it is a user.

Not much on my want list, but I’d pay about $700ish for a custom Tom Mayo. It would have to be the exact design I’m looking for though.

Same as @MolokaiRider.
I used to think 60$ was a high price for a knife.
About 300& a little north if I find one I really want.
There are alot of nice choices within this range.

Though I’ve been browsing Chris Reeves thanks to this place. I just can’t seem to bite on that price tag. Especially that I’m not allowed to gravity open it.

Money is like speed, it is relative..... to your bank balance.
Two zeroes in my account, $20 might be too much, three zeroes and $900 might be fine, once you get over six or seven zeroes, I'd probably stop caring and just buy whatever appeals.
If anyone wants to help me test this theory, I can send my paypal details to anyone with deep pockets and a need to know.

Started a few years back @ $100 max. Gradually increased to $400 max. Then inflation hit. Now, when I can afford it, the max is once again $100. And mostly I must sell something prior to buying something else.

Its all subjective.... If its truly something I liked want the skye the limit! I use all my knives and try to edc them all too.....Javier Vogt makes some truly incredible pieces that I most definitely would scoop up if I came across one while I had a.knot in my pocket...... I'm having a custom fixed blade made for around $325....I think this gents work is and will fetch far more once he makes.a.name for himself..... But you never know...

The most ive.paid.is $500 + or - $30-40 I think on A Fallkniven volcano in 2012 and just under $500 on A Sebenza 25 used shortly after they came out.....Still have the volcano and love it and use it often... The 25 was stolen from my things while in the hospital along with a ZT 561.😵. Expensive lesson huh!!!

We shall see what's out there that appeals and challenges my high.so far!!!

I don't have a set number in mind, for me a general rule is to not put a knife purchase on plastic that won't be paid off that month. That means my purchases are largely governed by how much "play money" is in the account.

I don't have a fixed limit. As with all my hobby funds, they come entirely from income that is "left over" after everything else has been paid.
If I really want something more expensive than what I have accumulated / allocated- then I'll just wait longer to get the item.
