Primate attacks.

Amen Brother - the chimp took off after the four shots and it's whereabouts were unknown thereafter

Seems to me the job is to neutralize the threat - period

The EMT's were afraid the chimp would come back and the police formed a perimeter - until they later found out he went home and died
I guess we should be very thankful that the chimp, perhaps enraged by pain, didn't kill someone on his way home. Although I hold no love for these creatures, I agree it wasn't probably the animal's fault. You just don't domesticate wild animals, it doesn't work. Period.

Remember all the uproar over the cute polar bear in Germany last year? How some groups wanted it euthanized rather than domesticated? Hah! Let me tell you a little story about 2 cute little polar bears in Denver that were abandoned by their mother, they were named Klondike and Snow. They were hand fed by the zoo staff, and once Klondike reached about 50 lbs, and the trainer wasn't quick enough with the bottle, the snarling attacking came. It was still too small to do any damage, but that was pretty much the end of the human feedings. Nobody had to teach it that it wasn't human, it figured it out all by itself. They don't call them *wild* animals for nothing...

Only the responding officer knows what it was like and he responded according to his training. There is no training to prepare one for these circumstances and what he must have seen.

It is easy to be a backseat driver after the fact, but much tougher on the front line. I did not intend to criticize anyone, only to pose a question that was running thru my mind.

It must have been one heck of a gruesome and terrifying scene for all that could have been avoided all together

Wild animals are cute when they are young, but they will always be wild no matter what - when the trigger occurs, the wild comes back

I think the police officer followed his training properly. It may be that he chose not to shoot the retreating chimp,or maybe it ran away too quickly for him to react,or maybe there was a danger of him hitting others if he shot after it. None of us were in his shoes. Nor would I have wanted to be.

Without going back to the original story, as I remember it, he was jammed in his vehicle as the chimp attacked him, and barely able to get those shots off. By the time the chimp fled wounded, he would have been hard pressed to get straightened up and out of the car to fire after it, with others in the area.

and just think it was a female which is about half size of the male... Out there in the wild we are about middle of the way of the food chain. Unless we are walking with a .50 rifle ready to shoot with paranoia settling in . We are not fast enough or strong enough.. But most of us are smart enough to stay out of trouble in the first place.

It had an auto immune disease that cause the hairlessness.

I actually knew a woman who had the same disease. Apparently her body decided her hair were foreign objects, and ejected every hair from her pores; head, body, even eye brows and eye lashes. It occured suddenly, and later in life too. After maybe 8 years, it just went away and all her hair grew back. Odd or what?

I sit here at night polishing brass, loading heavy rifle rounds. In the corner sits a grenade launcher, and boxes of frag rounds. Knives, all hones wicked sharp and oiled with gun oil, sit on every surface and hang on the wall. 20 dozen rifles sit ready, loaded, cleaned and oiled, in various spots around the apt. Another 50 dozen Browning machine guns sit in the center of the room. Pistols and revolvers sit on top of hundreds of thousands of boxes of ammunition.

We sit here, getting ready. Little Ling has 2 Miniguns strapped to himself, one for each meaty hand. damn bugger is 7 feet tall and 300 pounds of ex army. Two long BUSSE swords are strapped to his back. Charlie Boy sits in the window, with an old African lion rifle, polishing the massive brass shells by hand. 35,000 of them lined up all round him, gleaming like gold in the waning light. The rest of the tenants are armed with M16's, AK47's, hunting rifles, whatever they could grab during the last raid of Petes Gun supply. Poor guy, pete got ripped apart by the primates when he left his store one night.

The city is calm right now the smoke and screams have subsided. We have holed up on the 10th floor, in a penthouse. Ol Doc welded the elevators shut as well as the stairwells. Jimmy is on the roof gathering rainwater, Lisa and Pauly are disposing of the human waste. The rest of them are glassing the city, looking for the chimps.

Pedro and his crew radio up from the 2nd floor, they have secured and welded all the entrances. They a re heading up to the next level to do the same. so far we have contained the chimps to the lobby.

THOCK THOCK THOCK THOCK the staccato sounds of a chopper echo thru the city. Thats Mel and his fire crew, returning from a food and fuel supplies run. I send up Tommy and his crew to standby while the chopper lands. We got meat and potatoes tonight, a welcome relief from the C-rats of the last week.

we dine and wait. Constant waiting. A bunch of the farm boys sit on the roof, chewing RedMan, drinking Bud and sniping off the primates that come into their sights. Best sniper is a farm boy, they can red mist a gopher at 500 yards. One of the best we have is a lad named Mick, a 16 y/o who ran his daddies farm alone when his parents dies in a house fire. Mick dont talk anymore, but thats ok. He keeps a little kitten by his side, feeding it sardines and little tins of cat food. He lost everything in that fire, the farm stock, his parents, his baby sister and his GF, but he found that little cat mewling in the ashes. Look after it like family. He's a ace shot, and i'm not surprised, the primates set the fire.............there will be holy retribution if that lil kitty gets harmed.

Night falls. we all switch on the infrared goggles. The streets below are quiet, the primates have retreated for the night, suffering heavy losses at our hands and whoever else is armed with rifles.

The sweet night air envelopes us. The scent of lilacs mingle with the scent of gun oil, brass, sweat, fear, roasting steaks, beer and , hope. Yes, we still have hope.

we sit and wait. Some of the men and women doze off, some are awake. The static of the World band radio is ever present, as Sal scans the bands, broadcasting a distress call. .

night wanes into deep night, crickets chirp, its pretty quite.

At 0400 hours the alarm went off. The 1st floor has been breached.

its always in the early morn that they come.

The primates are here.

Little Ling just nods and heads down the private service elevator, his vest bulging with grenades and minigun ammunition. I watch on the security monitor as he goes down. He stops on second floor, sending the elevator back up to us. LL radios in, i'm down here Boss, they are breaking the welds. I got this........

a few minutes later we all hear the whine of twin miniguns, and the screams of a primate attack party. We feel vibrations as LL tosses a few grenades into the fray. I got em i got em. We're clear on 2nd floor.

I send down the welders to reweld the doors and brace them.

The look outs on the building radio in that there is a group of primates around 200 strong coming up the back way.

I send down a few more crew to back up LL.

and on it goes.....

alberich-Only thing with the snubby is there is only 5 rounds ,then up to my manual dexterity under stress with a speedloader. Sp101 is very good,if you take the time to smooth the revolver after you get it. Dao revolvers require practice to get the most out of them. I like the .357 because of the versatility of the caliber, especially if you reload.

The capacity is not that high but I'd not worry about it that much. According to some statistics in about 90% of shootouts BOTH sides used up to 3 rounds... Colt Goverment has 7 rounds, medium frame magnum revolvers 6, and yet they are quite effective weapons...

Speedloaders choice is very important thing, I personally use Jetloaders which are IMNSHO the top stuff. I thing that only clips are better for reloading revolvers. I've seen a guy from Germany on a competition and he was reloading as fast as with a pistol, if not faster.

You just need a good pet to fight them smelly Bandar-log back!

That explains it then, thanks for the info.

It's that darn 10% that worries me. :D

I EDC poisoned Banana's for just this reason. I feel naked without them. I only carry Plantains though, cause the Finger bananas don't really have enough stopping power to kill the average ape (that is to say, an ape strung out on PCP...You know, the norm). I also prefer to carry a large bundle of 15 or so. I'd rather have the banana power and not need it, than need the banana power and not have it, right? :D

personally i'm more concerned with those little purse dogs. They have been bred and mutated so much, that who knows when they are about to snap.

Don't worry, your gun still has 40% more ammo than needed for the 90% to cover the 10%. :))) And if something survives 5 hits from .357 Magnum in alpha zone, it's either Batman, his bro or T-Rex and you had no chance anyway.

You're probably right. :)

What we've learned from this thread:

Chimpanzees are really tough customers
Nobody should keep wild animals for pets, they belong in zoos or in the wild.
Carry a gun, if you legally can, knives can be a poor substitute in most instances.

Anything else?
