Production Sparrow News Thread

Checking in. 😁 This thing is super nice Josh, thank you! It's crazy light and sharp, also I was pleasantly surprised with the texture on the micarta inlays. 👍

Well me and my can’t leave well enough alone lol.

I figured at this point I’d better pull it apart to see the innerds, get a good cleaning and oiling.

I then realized that I had a couple sets of Skiff bearings that may fit that are just sitting around lonely.

The bearings are the same diameter and took them from 9 bearings to 12 bearings.

The pivot hole is a little smaller but still fits the pivot just fine.

The overall diameter of the body is a bit smaller but they fit.

Overall they fit good and the action is better. I’m not going to guarantee that these bearings are the correct size or that them alone made an improvement as just the grease made it better. The diameter of the bearings are the same and now have 12 bearings. Action is tight and zero blade movement upon lockup.

You got the correct bearings, I made sure those specific ones would work in the production Sparrow 👍

Glad you like it!! Yes the texture is one I came up with on my own haha, subtle but nice and grippy and the more it wears the more you will see it highlighted.

On the geometry I had to push Reate for the thinnest grind/lowest edge angle - they weren't willing to go any thinner or lower than what's on there 😂

Glad you noticed the small things!

Very helpful! I'd like to learn the pointer finger technique. I got it open that way once but it also went flying to the floor so I'll stick with the thumb for now.
I suggest getting comfortable with the thumb flip where your hand is just relaxed. The more relaxed your hand is, the easier to manipulate.

Then try the pointer finger open. Make sure that you aren’t putting pressure on the lockbar. That will make the blade snap open hard and if ya don’t have a good hold of it…well…you know. Haha.

For all of those needing some Sparrow opening tips and tricks, Coleman made this video! Thanks Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery !

Thanks Coleman! Much better now.

One thing I was wondering about after seeing the pics, was how the cutouts or finger grooves looked to be the same on both sides. On my iMamba, I wish the cutout on the main side was a bit deeper so I could get more thumb against the lock bar to release. But on the Sparrow, there seems to be less force required to release, so it's a non-issue.

On the prototypes it was perfectly flush but on the final version they show side lockbar access is recessed a bit for easier access.

Having the thumb relaxed is the key…I was leaving epithelial cells on the jimping from pushing too hard. 😳 Getting it every time now without flicking the wrist. Oddly enough the index method is easier for me!
Thank you for taking the time to film and post video!!

Thanks Coleman for the video, have the thumb method down, now just need to work on the index finger.🫣

My pleasure, gents! I’m just stoked that people are getting comfortable with front flipping!
