Production SWICK vs. Concept SWICK

Thanks zen! I've been eyeing the delica 4, now if i can only locate a retailer nearby that carries sypderco i'd be set (i checked the dealer locator and none are close by).

but as i looked through some of the pics on this forum, i noticed that other SPOTs have the largest hole on the blade filled in! when i looked at my spyder-hole i realized it would fit (with some gentle force) into the largest hole. but if i do that, the knife won't fit in the kydex sheath. is the large blade hole supposed to be filled or empty on the old SPOTs? and if it is supposed to be filled -- then why, if it no longer fits in the sheath?

Thanks!

happy but confused in NJ.
Hi Harry...did you get your answer yet? I'm not really sure what you mean. The Spot does have a large dimple that aids in sheath retention on the blade. Are you saying your "dimple" fell out?

That is exactly what happened! My dimple fell out sometime before the SPOT, which was NIB, arrived at my door. At first, I thought it was like getting a Munchkin thrown in when buying a donut. Then I saw the pics with the hole filled, so I worked the dimple back into the hole. I couldn't get it in the sheath initially, but then when I forced it hard, it popped in. Way more secure in the sheat with the dimple in than out! That is one knife that will not fall out of its sheath unless you want it to. I absolutely love this knife.

Now I'm trying different wraps for the handle. I started with an elastic white cotten wrap, about 1/4 inch wide. Pretty cool effect, felt good in the hand, but got dirty too easily. Now its back to its naked state, but I'm going to try another experiment: wrapping the handle with lead tape. This is the stuff tennis players put on the rackets to add cutom weight. I just want to see how a significantly heavier SPOT feels in the hand...

Hi Harry, the dimple is rather important for retention (I assume), if it is loose you might want to contact Spyderco for some customer service work (contact info on back of box).

It is one I really like as well. If you like the Spot, I would guess you will love the Swick...;)

thanks zen! that's a good idea -- the dimple does come out easily when i press the "right" side of the blade, so i'm always pushing it in from the left side because i dont want to lose it.

btw, the lead tape wrap was interesting at first -- gave the spot some nice heft (i dont wear it as a neck knife). but now it feels too heavy, so its going back to its original state, where it will stay.
