Protech Malibu

The two things that caused me to hesitate on this knife are the overly thick blade and the Allen screws.

The blade is .125" thick, not overly thick vs what I'm used to but I see what you mean. For comparison a Para2 is .14". Using the high wharclif profile, it is ground nice and thin.

The Allen screws would be nicer if they were black on this model for sure.

Does the Malibu have a Hollow or flat grind? I've seen conflicting reports on the dealer sites.

I still can't get over how much I love this one. Every day I'm finding more details that are just amazing.

I want one of these real bad. Too bad they always sell out quickly.

I just discovered this knife yesterday and it seems pretty perfect for what I want in a daily carry knife. Too bad they aren't available anywhere. I signed up for email notifications at a couple dealers though so hopefully I'll have a chane to pick one up soon.

What is the price? I like the looks of this knife! Every Protech I have owned has been great. I hope they make a auto version.

Got mine in today, the grind is amazing, it's thinner behind the edge than both the Cambria and Mordax, and the action is snappy and addicting. I think they nailed it!

How does the action compare to the mordax? Going to snag one of those two soon and I like the larger blade of the mordax but if the action and detent are noticeably better I could live with the shorter blade on the Malibu.

Comparing the Reverse Tanto that I received a six days ago to my Wharncliffe that I received over a month ago. There is a difference in flipping action between the two. The action of the Wharncliffe was perfect out of the box. The detent is strong and the blade flips open crisply; I cannot force the blade out with inertia. On the other hand, the reverse tanto has a slightly softer detent, and I can deploy the blade with inertia. The detent isn't horrible and the knife still flips reasonably well, but not as well as the Wharncliffe.

Anybody else have both models and experience the same difference?
I'm thinking of sending it in, but hesitant about dealing with pandemic shipping delays.

PS. These are my first button lock knives and I'm not familiar with the detent design. Is it even adjustable?

My Malibu is much snappier than the Mordax, and the detent feels much more crisp. I can tell the Mordax has a slightly heavier blade, and that affects the opening a little bit, especially when it's held straight up.

The Malibu and Mordax actually have just about the same amount of sharpened blade length. You get more belly with the Mordax, and the extra blade length is really just due to the finger choil. If you want a ProTech button lock flipper with more sharpened blade length, check out the Cambria. Here's a pic of all the ProTech Button Lock flippers, lined up at the pivots and shot straight down:

Thanks so much!

Aggravating they can't put a reversible pocket clip and another color option other than black.

I would have kne if it wasn't for that :/

I don’t exactly know why but I would like to get a black blade version of the reverse Tanto .... the ninja inside of me if begging for that ;)

A man is going to have to try one of these! Protech makes great knives.
