Prototypes

I'm glad I logged off and waited. I'm low on $$ and 15" and 23oz I was finding it hard to resist reaching for the credit card.

I want one with a slim handle eventually with the more stylish guard and a chandan handle:thumbup: ;)

These are beauties!

I like the narrower blade better, since this would make a better fighting and/or survival knife.

The blade from the wooden handled one crossed with the guard and the handle from the horn handled one would be almost perfect. I like the nice flare on the horn handled one, however a slightly smaller ring on the horn handle would make it even more versatile for changing the grip/hold during knife use.

I am saving up for getting one.

Thank you lefthandblack, for the design and Yangdu and Kumar for making it real.

Really nice execution of a neat design!

If it had a spear point, it would look like a small gladius. I like the longer handle, but both are really outstanding.

Thanks Lefthandback and Yangdu.

Still being relatively new here, it's great to see forumites' models made. What other company can you say, "Hey, this would be cool." and actually expect a positive response. This place is great.

PS - Fine looking knives. Can't wait to get myself one.

This name came up on one of the old threads, and I liked the suggestion: chitlangi + camp companion = " Champion "

Those look kinda like Bowie knives to me..... despite a lot of comments from forumites saying they wouldn't be interested in another Bowie knife.....

I think it just goes to show that a good, useful knife design will be recognized no matter what it's called, no matter where it's made.

I agree completely. Good analysis. The pinned handle is nice, but not absolutely necessary IMO. I'm picturing one with the narrower blade as well in neem or antler.

These are some great suggestions for names guys. Pretty humorous as well. Im just really looking forward to trying this one out to see what Kumar created. HI is truly a great company. All I did was post a picture of an idea and a short description and wallah, it became reality. I wonder what the heat treat is like on this blade. Can't wait to get it in my hand! Thanks Yangdu!! And tell Kumar thanks as well!!

I notice the one on the right with the wood handle cleary shows 'YVSA' on the paper tape. I always read (or rather look at) the Nepalese script on Deals of the Day, and this is the first time I have actually been able to read it!

Did Yvsa design it, or was it made for him? If Yvsa did design it I think it should be either called 'his' knife or the <name of his heritage> knife.

It was actually my design, as mentioned above, but Yvsa supported it. There is a link to the original thread above. Not sure why it says Yvsa on the handle, I just noticed that as well.

Edited to add, I seem to remember on the original thread that Yvsa wanted to see a version without the chiruwa handle but with a rat tail tang instead. I believe that is why it says Yvsa on the handle. Very cool.

No, I think you guys are seeing things there. The only thing that's written on the tags on the handle is the wood type, and I think they come that way from the kamis. I think it says "Sisau" or the Nepali shorthand equivalent.

(Actually, "Xisau" is my secret Nepali name, so that one is obviously intended for me.;))

It was originally a combination of the end half of a Chitlangi blade and the Chitlangi handle. It was meant to be a smaller, practical camp knife version of the chit. I remember thinking "Chit-Companion" or something along those lines. If you can think of a better name, let me know. Maybe "Little Chit":D

Maybe we can call it the "Lefthandblack Chitlangi Bowie" (LCB) or the "Lefthandblack Himalayan Camp Knife" (LHCK) or the "Lefthandblack Chitlangi Hybrid" (LCH)?

Man, it really looks like Yvsa on the wood handled one in the first picture when I blow it up in photoshop. Maybe part of the word is cut off though.
