The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials.

It is better to live on the corner of the roof, than in the house with a contentious woman.

There are times when the end justifies the means. But when you build an argument based on a whole series of such times, you may find that you've constructed an entire philosophy of evil.

The bad part about being a buzzard is that eventually you have to land and eat with the other buzzards.

From Brazil...

"Cachorro picado por cobra teme linguiça" A dog bit by a snake will fear sausage.

"No mato sem cachorro sem facão" In the bush with no dog and no machete, Brazilian expression for "up the creek without a paddle"

"Gato escaldado tem medo de agua fria" Scalded cats fear cold water.

"Pagar Mico" - Pay the monkey, expression for being made a fool of...

"Loco mas não rasga dinheiro" Crazy, but doesn't rip up money. Used to describe people that are off but still retain some sense.
