Just thought of one my Dad you used to use:

"Don't let your mouth write checks that your a$$ can't cash"

My football coach in highschool used to say all the time "Luck happens when preperation meets opportunity"

Maybe not a proverb, but I like it:

-The knowledge that the administration of justice and fairness no longer matters, must move a man to reject all he has known and accepted and to risk becoming a pariah in the eyes of his peers; for to refuse that risk, to continue as he has is to die within himself.-

-Choose elegance over force-

Two that seem to stick with me are:

"I tell you this, no eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn."
- Jim Morrison

and

"This is a dark ride" (refering to life in general)
- John Larroquette

a couple that are rather similar, that i remembered because of the luck one posted before...

"god helps those who help themself"

i don't necessarily believe in god, but the principle still stands, and i do my best to live by it every day...

Timeo hominnem unius libri
