Psychology of Black Friday sales

These are the days when it's good to have a list of knives (20-40) you're really focused on buying at some point. Write down the prices when they're not on sale, for the various retailers you deal with. That way you've got a better idea of what kind of sale it is versus the MSRP which is pretty much never the actual pricing. If you stay focused more on the knives you want the most, you're less likely to be left wondering what the hell you were thinking the next day, with a bunch of cash spent that could have gone towards something you wanted a lot more.

There are a few knives on my list that are on sale and I just put in an order for a Spyderco Caribbean for $60 off the regular price, from one of the regional knife stores I do a lot of business with, so that's a good thing. Having that much off makes a long term knife purchase a short term purchase, when it's finally down at a price I more regularly buy knives for.

No but deals can be had. On previous Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or 11-11 sales; I've picked up various knives at better than average prices. The same goes for other sales events.

There is also the phenomenon of prices on a new model falling once it has been out a while. Curiously, I've noticed that some of the eventual resting prices on various models are similar to what their occasional sale price had been in the past.

As far as "loss", some sales can just be about moving old product or clearing space. Time is a factor so it's not impossible.

Awhile back I bought five Fallkniven F1 knives on line at Walmart, of all places. The black Cerakote with leather sheaths. $100 delivered! Real deal, not fakes or fakes returned. Some boxes were a bit wrinkled but it looked like old stock. At least the holographic boxes checked out. And the details of the knives were perfect. So it can happen, once in a blue moon. I sold one for $60, gave 3 away and kept one. $10 knives, LOL.

FYI to all, I am a person of color. My comment was really meant to point out the evolution of labels in a humorous way (I guess I failed).
No you didn't but there are some people even on a knife board that just can't get over looking for a chance to be offended.

Not sure what you want me to elaborate on, pretty much across all automotive forums especially off-road and mountain bike forums regarding aftermarket parts, etc.
How about the "tactics" you are talking about? Personally, I'm fine with the "tactic" of a knife dealer emailing me to say a bunch of high quality kit I have had my eye on is going to be 25% off. Those no good bastards, how dare they! 😁

It's all a scam to get your money. I browse multiple websites and they all have the exact same prices down to the penny. MAP prices work great for the manufacturer and retailers. Not so much for the customer.

Hmm....Knifecenter has all spyderdo on sale. I just saved nearly $40 on a sharpmaker and stretch 2 xl that have been on my "to buy" list for a while. Knifecenter threw in one of those worksharp pocket bit tools which is actually a really useful thing (I already have one).

So, I guess to some of you money bags out there, $40 is nothing, but to me it was a good deal and worth taking the 5 minutes to read my promotions inbox, hit add to cart, and checkout. Psychology my ass 😁 :D:)
yep did same thing. grabbed a 2xl stretch and a siren been wanting to try......cause of the sale. otherwise would have passed.

What is "all a scam"? Keep in mind we are talking about the black Friday sales and not MAP. I just googled "spyderco stretch 2 xl", looked at the top 7 non-amazon dealers and got 4 different prices ranging from $81-$113. Se either way, talking map or black Friday, you just aren't correct.

Knifecenter wasn't even the cheapest but they are a dealer I trust and they support the forum here. I was very happy to get their promotional email letting me know I could save $23 on a knife I had my eye on for a long time. Do explain how I was scammed.

Because that knife you mentioned should have cost $23 (or more) less from the start. Just my opinion. No need for hostility.

I recently looked at blade hqs black Friday "deals" in particular the giant mouse gmf2, they are listing it at 156.00 however thats the regular price now for the gmf2 on other major retailers I checked
I suspected silliness on that site before in terms of "their sale price" now here it is again

In the UK most retailers would have just upped the price and then "conned" you into paying the normal price, that's how it is here (a rip off). Although if its at the same price it was a month or so ago and any real discount is genuine its a good time to buy obviously.

That's what Safeway does

So you are just complaining about how expensive things are?

All prices are the scam!

Never realized how many people are so negative about a fellow knife nut savinga few bucks on a knife they'd been wanting. Bunch of Debbie downers.

Seems like only Chinese knives go on sale. It’s indicative of the enormous margins in them. I haven’t seen any of my favorite Italian imports go on sale, nor any Swedish axes. Them’s the prices and you take it or leave it.

NWFRS Lionsteel offered a 20% discount on their normal prices if purchased directly. I've spoken to their sales director via email and they are a genuine company who do already produce excellent value products (at the normal price).
