Pulling the trigger on a an order, kinda having regrets...

Its not just knives but anything you buy online sight unseen. Its the inherent risk. I buy all my knives online and have never been stuck with anything I could not return for another or a refund. Out of all the knives I have purchased I have only been unhappy enough to exchange one. All the rest I have kept.

For me it is a risk I'm willing to take to save 20-60% off of retail price. Even if I had a retail location (which I don't) I would still choose to buy online for the price savings.

That is the world we live in, but.... based on my personal experiences, as I am sure most of you agree, there are some makers of products that one has lesser chances of being unhappy with. So it's just more of a luck of the draw with some, again, nature of the beast... and I have chosen to play the game with Utica, though my gut feeling said... "Noooo!" ;-)

Did you actually have a significant need for this knife, or just an impulse buy of something that caught your eye?

Been eyeing them since I first purchased my Utica pocket knives a couple years ago. Just thought it be neat to have one of their fixed blades represented in my collection (same reason for my adding a Queen fixed blade recently). :-)

Impulse buy would be my reason, and to add a modern Utica to the vast Accumulation.

I don't even hunt, but there's something about drop-point hunters... I've got dozens of 'em just for lookin' at.

Browsing an online dealer moments ago, I saw the same knife being offered with smooth mottled brown handle. If I wasn't trying to watch my money a bit this month, I'd of ordered it. Cause that's the way I roll.

LOL! :-) Well, since I have wanted it for a couple of years, and I have held off from taking the plunge... well...tomorrow I find out if I fully regret or not. I too have seen the smooth handled versions, but am hoping it comes to me jigged as the description says.... It's the pics of it having a jigged bone handle that has always caught my eye about them. Then again, if it comes as a smooth bone, but it has no flaws to speak of, I would likely keep it anyway. That picture of them having that jigged bone, really has me keeping fingers crossed... just love the look! :-)

Not to encourage your impulse buying, but CSC has a drop point hunter with outstanding jigged bone. And the Amber Stag Bone on the Queen Lite Hunters... to die for. Plenty of jigged bone drop points go through the For Sale By Maker forum section too.

I am trying to fight the impulse buying... but the desease has progressed to the point it may be terminal! ;-) I did see a few Canal Street at the last gun show.... their prices were a bit higher than I was willing to pay... but they were some nice specimens :-)

Sounds like you have a nasty First World Problem there. I think you should pre-emptively sue them before it arrives for all the pain and suffering they have already caused you.

That is a great looking knife (and sheath combo), very Lovelessian, and I assume Utica's 1095 is pretty good. I for one am rooting for them and hope the real thing is a pleasant surprise.

Yes, I agree. Buyers remorse even before the knife arrives. I will say from many years of owning knifes...One usually gets what they pay for. I recently purchased 3 USA Schrade drop point hunters. I bought a PH1 first and was wondering what I was going to get for $45 bucks. Turned out to be a decent knife for the money so I bought two PH2s. One to go with my PH1 and one to leave at camp. Again for around $45 bucks. These are about the same, price as his Utica. But they have a much nicer shaped handle.

All in all, I didn't have high expectations for a $45 knife. I was pleasantly surprised. Hope you will be also.

Just a thought, wait to see what you get before whining about your uncontrollable emotions. :D

Well, maybe I am jumping the gun on their fixed blades... but I did see enough flaws on the Utica made pocket knives, to validate some concern in their quality control.... But again, maybe I have jumped the gun on their fixed blades, and maybe they'll actually look like their pics online representing their knives. I'm hoping to write my impressions in a way that are glowing, and that put aside any fears I may have concerning their products.... or atleast on the one specimen I get :-) Either way, I will surely be sharing my thoughts right here on this thread... I really believe more first impressions on Utica's current crop of offerings need to be shared :-)

As long as any potential issue is only cosmetic and you bought it for a user not a safe queen...worry not friend.

Well, maybe I am jumping the gun ...YES YOU ARE....on their fixed blades...

MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT FIRST!!

I really believe more first impressions on Utica's current crop of offerings need to be shared :-)

ALL MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS COME FROM HAVING AN ITEM IN MY POSSESSION

I'm having too much fun here! It just is getting better and better as this thread moves along :D

Third rule of Traditional: Post Friendly.

When you get it, please post pictures, good or bad.
I have a Utica small stockman with bone covers that match the scales on your knife, so I may look into getting one of these.

Here in this pic, the middle shelf there has my Utica Catskill series Trapper. Something comparable is what should be on the Utica fixed blade knife I ordered, it also being part of their Catskill series :-)
