Purchasing my first blade and in need of guidance.

Look at my $450 1st knife I bought. How do I take care of it ? here is a link on how to care for it..........Even your name sounds like a gimmick.
If I want to start learning about blades that means I have to buy something cheap to start with? I have money. And the link does not have an in depth explanation on blade care. Which is why I came here to learn more than what was said in the link. I apologize if that is too difficult to grasp.

Does this site even have mods? I'd assume not at this point.

You seem to be overthinking things..."keep a thin film of oil on it" is about as in depth as it gets - it's just a slab of metal, not the space shuttle :)

Well I'm pretty sure I learned much more from this thread than I could have from the link I posted. This is something I'm new to. So I came here to make sure I was prepared.

Regardless of your financial situation, spending $450 on a novelty item you know little to nothing about is seen as foolish to many if not most people.

With regards to care and maintenance, several people already answered your question, oil it up and you're good to go.

If you want to stop the bleeding now feel free to close this thread down yourself. No need to wait for a mod to do it for you...

Nothing foolish about buying something and learning everything there is to know about it in order to take care of it.

Just wondering has anyone used Ballistol on their knives? I know it's good for guns, but what about knives?

A little rust is not a threat. However if it gets out of hand it tends to get out of hand in places where water is traped like at the edge of the scale. Rust that sits and grows too long starts to pit the metal...and if that pitting gets out of hand, and bunches up let's say along a straight line...like the end of a scale...theoretically that blade gets a thin spot. This is pretty hypothetical as it would take a very long time for such a thing to weaken a blade...unless it were in very bad conditions like in a salt water fishing boat tackle box, stored aboard. Just wipe 'er down with a little oil every once in a while and you'll never have any rust issues.

Dude, I'm trying to contribute and bring you into the fold. Don't lash out. Knives get a bad rap from the uninitiated and a lot of folks are working very hard to fight back. "Vakra" is one thing (that's their Kukri). "Felon"...that's just a plain stupid name for a big knife...stupid marketing...why not just call it the "Alamo Special" or something. "Felon"...epic fail there.
I wasn't referring to you. I appreciate all of your contributions to this thread. You are one of the few who helped and I thank you. I do agree about some of the names though. If anything "The Mack Daddy-O" is the worst name in my opinion. But they are having fun with their company. I don't understand how some people here can just trash the company because they are having fun and make blades that are different. Pure elitism at it's worst.

Shame you didn't prepare for here before you came here. If you had you would have foreseen the widespread disdain for that thing and that thing's makers around here. It wouldn't have been difficult to grasp.

Once more, put a coat of oil on it, go off battling the zombies or whatever you plan on, and we will stay around here trying to fix the damage that companies like that and their customers do to our hobby/passion.

Thanks. Have fun. Enjoy The Stabinator or The Decapitator or The Overcompensator or whatever that thing is called.

Son. What you need to do is go find out about all the efforts to takes people's knives away across the world driven by people who think knives are merely weapons.
You know what drives that thinking? Knives with names like "The Felon". Ad copy for knives that revel in talking about chopping though bones. Go ask one of our Brit friends how "fun" that is.

You are way over your head here, and the funny part is that you're not getting it, and you are calling the people who do get it elitist or ignorant.

I'd strongly suggest you stop digging.

Here you go.

Quoting Marcinek. ;)

Is a knife not a weapon? Answer that please

Also using the term "son" makes you like like a tool marcy ;)

Gladly, son. A knife is a tool. It's not something to make you feel like you "ooze badassery", if I recall the way they put it.

All I see is

"This message is hidden because marcinek is on your ignore list."

Stop replying you have done nothing but rant in this thread. Do you have nothing better to do than act like a child who is upset because people view things differently than you? I came here in a responsible and kind way asking to learn from people who are more experienced in this world of blades. Go away

Nope, it is a tool that can be used as a weapon. Just like a hammer. Is a hammer a weapon?

You know, if a hammer company said their hammers were great for smashing bones and made one look like a badass, they would be they would be "run out of town" by every tool maker who makes tools for people to use.
