Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

Blade Show was a good time, the kids impressed a few people with their knife and leather knowledge and were showered with stickers and doodads. My boy struck up quite a few conversations, it was fun to watch. Picked up some handle materials from GCarta and had a chat with them for a while, nice folks.

I'm thinking of changing my little picture doodad doohickey to that Cactus from the Final Fantasy series.

Me opening google to search final fantasy cactus....

Ok, that's a funny little cactus dude and would make for a pretty good avatar.

Glad you had a good trip. Have a great week back and enjoy some of the cooler weather, although I am sure Montana has colder than I got here in VA right now.

Howdy John & crew!!
Sounds like the younguns had fun at Bladeshow!!
Hope all y’all have a great weekend!!
That goes for the rest of you hombres too!!

So my daughter and son in law got married back in August. Due to work obligations etc they didn't go on their honeymoon till a few weeks ago. they rented a large cabin/lodge at Lake Tahoe. Neither of them had been there before to this gorgeous area. At first it was looking iffy cause there was a large wildfire nearby and the air quality was absolutely terrible. They started driving up and it started raining. It rained for three days and cleared the air and kinda put out the fire. Yet it never just poured, they were still able to go outside and do things, a nice soft rain. Luke Combs was doing a big outdoor concert there on the Thursday and the groom's sister and her partner had bought them tickets as their wedding gift as the kids are huge fans and had seen him in concert a few times already. They were driving up to join the bride and groom at the concert. Well the ticket company screwed up the tickets, and screwed up the tickets and screwed up the tickets and screwed up the tickets and finally Thursday morning the day of the concert, the ticket company said: man we've really screwed this up, how about 4 tickets in the pit? Course they all jumped on that. Or daughter Alyssa is a big poster maker so she of course made a poster to take.

Luke comes on and plays a great concert. They're real close to the stage as ya can see above. End of last song he starts signing things for folks close. He motions her up and takes her poster and signs it. She was pretty stoked:

Another interesting tidbit. There was a third ring in that upper corner where he signed. It had fallen off during the concert and so he had a place to sign. Yes she's having the poster framed.

Thanks. She is. Keeps busy too. Alyssa is a pretty darn good Cowchick as well! She is the great, great, great granddaughter of legendary, early Californio and Vaquero, Don Antonio Leiva, The Caporal on Rancho El Tejon for over 30 years. She is a seventh generation Tehachapian. This was Saturday:

ER Superhero through the week:

Not a funny story but perhaps a coinkadink. My brother had a heart attack Tuesday, (he's gonna be ok). They get him stabilized up here in our regional hospital here in Tehachapi and then send him down the hill to one of the major hospitals that is also a heart speciality outfit and where she works. She ended up caring for him while he was in the ER prior to him going off to the CATH lab for a stint. Got er done.

Plus she likes spicy shrimp when Cookie makes em at the ranch:

Now here is a funny story! Folks think of California as palm trees and bikinis. Well not this part! It can get bitterly, bitter cold around here. The house here is at about 4,200 ft and the ranch goes from about 4,000 to 7,500 ft. Yeah we're not on the coast, no palm trees. I've worked with 3 or 4 cowboys from Montana that said they have never been as cold in their entire lives, as they were here. Had a friend from Grand Junction Co that lived here for several years and then moved back. She moved she said because she just couldn't get warm here in Tehachapi. My son, cowboys in north east NV. He claims that the mid 30's here are like single digits there in NV. Anyhoo you get the idea, it can get cold!! Alyssa will often come and help out in the shop for which I pay her. She does most of my blade cutting out on the bandsaw and she loves to profile those blanks. Since I send large batches of blades to heat treat (100 plus batches, ya can't believe the price break at that number), its handy having someone else that is handy, help ya out on those steps. So she'd come up one day to work and it turned out to be one of those absolutely bitterly cold days. I do most of my knife work outside for a variety of reasons. I have an eight foot bench on wheels where upon live all my grinders. It lives inside the shop but we roll it outside to use it most of the time. We're in the house getting ready and of course Mom is going, "Oh baby girl you don't have to go out there its too cold!", etc, etc, etc. Alyssa pulls on her beanie, zips up her Carhartt and says and I quote: "I ain't no bitch!" And she wasn't either! We worked for a couple of hours before we got too numb to continue.
