Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

Chris it might be five years before he gets back to us!

I have lurked long enough the addiction has taken over. Had a dream about filing last night and have been researching belt grinders throughout the day.

Yep, you're screwed, welcome to the addiction. What's the thickness on that O1? Come over one day and play with the KMG and the Grizzly, it'll help you get an idea about grinders.

It's 5/32 I brought the edge to as close as I could to the thickness of a dime considering going a little thinner. Putting the initial edge on seemed to take ages.

Thanks mitch I will be posting alot more as I go Im looking for some honest feedback and advice.

Yeah, its tough with filing. Dimes width is cool before heat treat, but you'd need a grinder too thin them out after that. With just files you might want to take them down thinner before. 5/32" is pretty thick not to take that grind up higher. Blah blah blah, I'll shut up now.

Knife1987 is too hard to type and we're lazy, want us to use your first name, or K87?

First name will work. I agree on the steel being too thick for the grind I set it at. Part of learning by experience I found out pretty quick.

Welcome Chance, that's Dennis (mitch4ging) and Chris (Rupestris). Stick around.

Dammit, Johnny beat me to the punch. Chance? Named after John Wayne's character in Rio Bravo?

Is that you John Wayne?

For my first knife I give the Internet alot of credit, however most searches brought me here to the blade forums. The edge I put on it might cut butter. That's one of many things I need work on.

Chance or John Wayne, :D

Sharpening is a journey in its-self! I thought I knew how to sharpen when I started making knives! Then, That I thought was Sharp at two years in was laughable at 5 years, and its continued since 1996. Also I hope I never stop learning how to sharpen or make knives.
So just enjoy the ride with an open mind ! ;)

There was an episode of Married With Children where Al Bundy kept reminding Peg that Hondo was on TV. "But Peg, Hondo is coming on!"

I'm the same way way Rio Bravo. I even remind my wife by whining, "But Peg, Rio Bravo is coming on."

I'm (sorta) back. Crazy week with family over. Wanted to try and fill my Doe tag this morning, but didn't make it out. Maybe Friday. I have until the 30th, and this is my last big game tag of the year.

While up Elk hunting last week, I finally realized what John's "thumpling" reminded me of. Here's a crappy picture of the front sight ramp on my pre-64 '06 Model 70 I took after cleaning it a couple days ago. (Yes, it's a machined, integral part of the barrel. No soldering here!)

Looks pretty similar to me!

Thats some nice stippling Jared, cuts some glare. Pre-64's had some nice touches:thumbup:
A pre-64 model 70 in 30 '06? Doesn't get any more classic than that.

Thanks Mack.

I had to watch El Dorado on DVD after you posted that. I went fishing for a couple hours (no joy) I got home, checked the TV and El Dorado is on AMC right now :p

Not sure what to do now. It's just me and the dogs.
