Purple! Because Ice cream has no bones!

Did you make the cutting board/table they are sitting on?

Yes, I'm making a few more right now, I basically have an unlimited supply of Bocote.

Looking great, Scott!!
For the FC, I used a short piece of PVC pipe, ~8" or so, put an end cap on the bottom, then a threaded fitting with screw cap on the other. Hose clamp it to a stand made of 2x4's or what ever you like. Then keep your mix in there, unscrew cap when you are ready to use. Works a treat, and no metal contact or corrosion.

Thanks Dennis, that's my next shop project. Didn't even think about the aluminum pan what a freaking dope.....

Love that Damascus pattern. Those are going to be beautiful.

Thanks Tim, just epoxied the handles on I'll post pics when there done.

Don't feel bad, Scott. A couple weeks ago, I was using some boiled linseed oil in the garage, applying it with a rag. Finished it up, stood and admired my work, went in the house to have a celebratory beer. Went back out a couple of hours later and realized i had just left the rag on some scrap 2x4s, and it was already heating up and stinking. Felt pretty stupid as I found a coffee can for it!!

Last week I poured some Methyl ethyl ketone in a dixie cup. Ate through the bottom and left a nice melted plastic ring on my bench. It was one of those "OK, it's time to go to sleep dummy" moments. I usually use baby food jars for stuff like that.

Well, I guess as long as you don't burn the house down, or your lungs, and still have all your digits, it's just good reminders!

John, look for the little recycle triangle on the bottom of plastic containers. There will be some letters under it. The Dixie cup was probably Polystyrene and would have has a "PS" under the triangle symbol.

You can use Polypropylene (PP) without melting it. We use Nalgene and other PP squeeze bottles at work with lacquer thinner, acetone and heavy naphtha (lighter fluid) without a problem.

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) are solvent safe too.

Holy Schnikes! That is gonna look great, especially with the damascus!

Thanks gents, here's the first pass at it I think I need to narrow the neck down a bit. The black wood looks great but what a pita to work.

That's going to be a beauty, Scott!! The woods pair up nicely, and is going to tie nicely with the Damascus!

That blackwood is more like working mild steel! The Damascote looks amazing. Great cutting board too:thumbup:

Damn! Those are freaking knice. Does bocote hold up to use like blackwood does?

Yes it's pretty freaking hard. Janka hardness scale below.

The most common test for testing wood hardness is known as the Janka hardness test. The actual number listed in the wood profile is the amount of pounds-force (lbf) or newton's (N) required to imbed a .444″ (11.28 mm) diameter steel ball into the wood to half the ball’s diameter.

3670 African Blackwood

2010 Bocote

4,570 Quebracho = Hardest

90 Balsa = Softest

Scooter!
Sweet looking! My 2 cents is to just shave off some under the index finger area on the under side of the handle.

Thanks Mack

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I need to look at it more, I think I like it.
