Getting things squared away around the Redmeadow homestead. Looking forward to the leather show in Sheridan next week where I'll be spending your hard earned cash that I've been squirreling away on some tools and leather. Upon return we'll be back in the swing of things. I hope everyone is in good health and enjoying Spring.
Family is doing good, we had to reorganize our time management to get some things taken care of. I've been working on a lot of projects in and (mostly) out of the shop. One thing that may be of interest here is I picked up a beefy guillotine tool and made a few sets of dies to help with some forging. The portaband has had a workout cutting one inch plate and is still running like a champ. Hope you've been well, we'll need to touch base when I get back from Sheridan.Good to hear from you, John. Hope you all are keeping well.
Might be a lens adjustment piece for an old telescope. Just a guess. So then there's this.
I traded two knives and a set of reins to a cowpuncher in New Mexico for this set of elk sheds up on my gun safe. We were there at his EXTREMELY remote ranch a couple of years ago picking up a filly we'd bought from him. The wife traded me out of them for a set she had stashed cause this set is perfectly symmetrical and she wants them for the gate. The set she had stashed was larger and so yielded me more knife handles.

But what is that mechanical device?

I'm with Scott, because I can't make heads or tail of it and that's a great guess. I'd love to see how that operates. All I do know is that it would be fun to play around with!
I found this humorous, I walked into the hotel today and shortly afterwards a man and his wife walked in, he hollered "Hey did you lose a set of Subaru Keys?". His wife smacked him on the arm and said "Does he look like he drives a Subaru?!!". I guess I don't fit the profile.
Had a run in with a nutty lady but I'll spare you from that one.
Saw the entries to the leather competition, some incredible work. There were only 5 entries in the youth 8-13 age group, two of which were siblings. Really is a dying art that I hope makes a comeback someday. I fear some sort of 3D texture printer will be tooling leather one day (though that might just be the John Conner in me, SkyNet is self aware!!!!)
That's cool Dave, mechanisms like that are fascinating. No more guesses?
Its a Norton bomb sight from WW2. My dad gave two bucks for it after the war at a pawn shop. It is fun to twirl the dials and watch things go.

They are good cars from what I hear, the ones you see around here have PNW plates 9 out of 10 times. The Subaru is the unofficial car of the PNW - they are all over here. Admittedly, I drive one as it is a most excellent ride. My wife will sometimes comment that I probably turn a few heads getting in and out it - I don't think I fit the profile either.
We had a Kia for several years. The wife called it Foxy. Our daughter was playing basketball in college and we had a lot of driving around to do going to games. We'd already put a couple hundred thousand miles on one of our trucks going to club games and high school games. We'd gone down the hill to buy a BMW but saw these across the street. Went over to have a look see at these and they were way more impressive than the Bmers. Went home with one. They are good cars from what I hear, the ones you see around here have PNW plates 9 out of 10 times.
The nicest looking car was behind me on the road the other day, I thought for sure it was a high end maker like Bentley or some kind of luxurious sports car, really nice lines.
When it passed me it turned out to be a..... Kia![]()

Not today, it was just a quick trip. We'll bring poles next time and throw a line in. I want to try Hidden Lake this year, it's a tough haul but the most beautiful little mountain lake you could imagine.Do any fishing there?
