Put Up or Shut Up 2010

Yeah man. Although I never claimed to have any skills, so I don't feel like I have anything to prove, per se. :D

Anyone who camped with Jake and made it out unmolested has plenty of skill.
Stop being so modest!

:D

I'd love to crash Joe's place. I would also love a camp/ canoe trip in the Everglades if any one knows of a spot!

Don't do that trip without me! That will have to be next fall probably. You don't want to do it with the mosquitos in full force during the summer. TRUST ME. There are plenty of canoe trails and hammocks (actual docks to set up tents on) out there. I want to see if I can convince Ash to come along with me for it. Its a bit harder for her to get a week off though.

OK, hopefully I'm not shooting my mouth off too much here, but I've got access to land (at least 90 acres.) here in the mtns. Rustic lodge property (not seen in any pictures, different part) where we can shoot and camp next to the river, plenty of open meadow space. It will have to be during a specific week though. I would like to have it AFTER PWYP in april if possible.

The other one is the Hunting plantation in SC. A pond, quail, and the possiblity of doing a stretch of the Santee river if you so choose. Shooting, and swamp exploing with possibility of killing pigs.

I just read what this entails. I'm going to not compete in it. I shall be a vessell for trips that the others can come one..BUT PLEASE COME ON THE DANG TRIPS!!!

Hey lets rattle Hushnels cage and see what his thought on the Everglades are...I think I could make to FL,or NM maybe Miss or GA if I had a little advance notice...A southern wetlands/swamplands type of course. not that I wouldnt mind going snow-camping with K Estela and all of yall but getting there presents a little bit of an issue..plus K might have to "share sleeping bag" with a frozen swamp rat!!! it aint snowed here in 20 blinkin years!!

I'll be in MI in the Summer if you want to do an earlier gathering. Let's set it up! And Joe, what a spot. We'd be crazy not to do something there.

I immediately thought of Michigan because I know a few areas where such an activity would be cool, and would be willing to help with the logistics.

BUT, Joe's area is so great, and there are so many things to do there. But, I wouldn't be as confident planning that one. Still, that would be my preference.

That would be really neat if we could get a deep snow trek in here pretty soon. As in, trek it into a campsite (snowshoe or ski). I will have to PM you about that and the bark river deal. I didn't know anything about that, or when it is.

Great idea K.

Don't forget guys, we can do ALL of those ideas!

I'm up for planning something in the mtns of NC since that is closer than SC for some of you guys. It will have to be a specific week date though for the spot I have in mind. I think it should be dead summer though. I dont' want to interfere with PWYP. Maybe July or August?
I live 45 mins away from mount Rogers/grayson highlands. For a snow trek hike, that seems to work every year. Back in the outing club, we used to find some of the coldest weekends up there for the annual Death March.

SC guys, chime in:) Methinks a canoe trek down the Santee river would be fun. They have alligators and bigger gar that eat them.

Everglades...whew! Don't get me started. I was just caneoing there about 2 months ago for a quick couple hour trip. Now that place would be crazy. I would have to DEMAND that I would be allowed to road cruise either a few nights before or after on the flamingo trek. 49 snakes on the road in one night can't be ignored. I would suggest we start planning that trip now, for the fall. September/ October are when the mosquitos die down yet the temp is still up in the 80s-90s. I have a map/

This weekend, NC guys give me a PM if you aren't doing anything saturday night.

I'm sticking this thread and asking the forumites to make it to at least one event in 2010. There are too many anonymous people who shouldn't be afraid of the regular attendees of these events. We should be able to pull off one good event a month and in plenty of locations around the US. With a couple hundred bucks (the cost of a cheap custom) you'll have an experience you won't forget and one unable to be taken away from you.

Joe, I'm calling you in a few minutes. Let's kill some pigs. We can make it a double date (you and Ash and me and Halley).

I like it Kevin good one making it a sticky. Once I get the exact dates figured out for WNY I will get it on the calendar as well. Doug

This all sounds good to me. So happy to be home and be able to do this stuff. I am down for whatever North Caroline South works for me.

If anyone wants to host an event, make sure to;
1. Provide date, time and location (city, state)
2. Make sure primitive campsites are allowed (no public campgrounds out of group safety)
3. Parking avail.for all the cars.
4. Airport info or other ways to get to the area.
5.Knife and firearm laws or a link to what we need to know.

Joe and I were just talking and out of good ribbing fun we want to keep track of a big pet peeve. We have both arranged trips in the past and have guys commit early on guaranteed to show. Well, the day of the trip, 1/2 show and the others who brought extra food for the group get screwed. Joe and I want to (for ribbing sake/good fun) keep track of those that back out of trips originally promised to attend. We'll ride you to make good of your word.

So, January's Winter Camping trip at the WLC can be a put up or shut up trip. Can we get more on the calendar?

Thoses no showers should have a special hat to be worn and all future events :)

Caine,

What an idea! Maybe make them carry a Pakistani $1.99 gas station hollow-handle blade too!
