Quality Slip Joint and Lock back ??

I am assuming (everyone knows what assumptions are worth, of course!) that he means a wharncliffe.

I understand that. It has been my EDC for 15 years and I have lost more of them than I have worn out, and I use them daily.

You have no idea how awesome I think that is... that you carry a Featherlite, that you are on here posting, and that you are such a cool person who actually cares about a customer/fans opinion and experiences. You actually made me an even more loyal customer... which I didn't think was possible.

I still can't get over the great pricing for the amazing knife that the Featherlite is. I have purchased many and given them as gifts.. not only cause the super price, but cause the super quality that I know it offers. Can I be honest? I have my first Chris Reeve Sebenza ordered and on its way. Should be here soon, but I am really worried that it isn't going to live up to my expectations after the Featherlite. I know some will laugh at this post, but its the truth.

Thanks again.

Stainless steel in the handle.

Too many of the higher end knives, Like Schatt and Morgan, CSC...STILL use brass and nickle silver in their handles. These are reactive materials and look dull and drab after handling.

Stainless steel handles have become the mark of a quality slipjoint.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

+1 STeven, if it has brass liners, pins, I won't buy it and if it has brass, definitely not worth $200-$300 to me. Otherwise sounds like a good project and would love to give it a look.

I constantly feel sad that I missed out on the White Wing slipjoints when they were in business. I'd really like a nice slipjoint that I could carry more often.

A.G., from what I remember, Whitewing Knives was a line of knives produced by Bailey Bradshaw around 2001 or 2002. I am not sure how long the line was produced but it was only a short while I believe. Here is link that shows a couple. Scroll down a little to see them. I had one in stag but let it get away. Excellent workmanship. http://www.txknife.com/hand-made-knives.htm

were there any slipjoints or were they all that pattern lockback?

I think there was a trapper, there may have been others, I just don't know for sure.

This project certainly has piqued my interest!! Wharniffe blade in a 3.25" to 3.5" closed length knife would be my preference - but I have varied interest and any higher quality knife would call me.

A very nice wharncliffe and clip point trapper or even muskrat, I missed on the American Muskrat, would really be a great pocketknife. Use a good carbin or tool steel also.
:)
I’m even very tempted to order a Featherlite right now.

I think there is a market for the $300 high quality custom slip joint and lockback. Ray Cover can hardly keep up with the orders he has and all but told me so. He said he won't be making lockbacks much longer because he has so many slippies to keep up with that lockbacks are just getting in the way. Glad I got my order in for one now. I think if you can put together something like his $240 lockback in something with that kind of exemplry fit, finish and function you would surely see the response from the knife community.

I got to be honest here, A.G...

For $200-300 I would rather get two Bob Ham knives or another Ty Montell custom. Their turn-around time has never been too back-logged either. In fact, I started talking to Ty last week for another. This is one of the main reasons why I never considered a Bose/Case.

Just my .02

Eric:

That is why every body in this business from Smokey to Tony Bose has lots and lots of business. Ain't it great?

While it would not be the average of my knife collection, I would like to have several high end knives, especially a really nice slip joint, with a good steel blade (D2 would be great), and a high end wood scale. I brought this same issue up on Jerzee Devil.

That being said, I am in a spot financially right now, but when I get back on my feet, I would like to pick up a custom slipjoint, or a nice Schatt and Morgan etc.

I like high-end slipjoints, especially multiblades. I also have the Queen Dan Burke Collaborations, as well as a couple of the Scagels. I would be very interested in what A.G. would offer in wood and /or bone, with additional interest in higher-end handle materials. I would be nuch less interested in such a floder with non-natural scales.

I would be even more interested if this were a custom collaboration of some type with a maker whose designs really appeal to me.

I have suggestions, but something tells me that A.G. already has something in mind.:D

Thaks, A.G.

I would really like your suggestions, could you email them to me? agr@agr3.com

A.G., there would definitely be interest on my part. I would really like one or two knives in that range as daily users.

Hey AG:
I'd be interested too. Have you seen the stuff Tod Davison has been selling lately on the makers forum? His stuff looks good, I've never been able handle one but he seems to be selling them like hotcakes!;)
