Is there one reason to get the quartermaster over the paramilitary 2? I'm just not familiar with quartermaster?

They don't really have much value around here and for good reason. I got one quartermaster I bought 2nd hand on the cheap. It's built good I guess but there's a stigma attached to it. I wouldn't recommend buying one new. If you must try one out buy it 2nd hand so as not to support them.

Quartermaster is not highly regarded here, and discussions of them often turn ugly (just a heads up :D). Having said that, I own quite a few of their knives, and quality has been excellent in all but one case. In that particular case, customer service was great, so I can't complain there. I've read lots of good stuff about the different Roper variants, though I haven't owned one. It's hard to go wrong with Spyderco, of course. I'd say decide which knife has more features you like and go with whichever that turns out to be.

Sosa speaks the truth. The owner of QM is an extremely sketchy individual.......Sal G is not. Can't get a straight answer to the simple question......where are the knives made?? We know where Spydie's are made. Customer service is very good with Spydie.......no clue how QM handles warranty issues. And on and on and on........
The PM2 is one of the best knives from a company that puts out many excellent knives.
Go with the PM2 and you know you'll be happy with your purchase........can you say the same with QM???
Joe

Nope no reason to choose qm over the PM2...like stated above...go with the PM2, you won't be sorry

Not one reason to support a crap company like QRTmaster especially when comparing them to one of the best companies in the business and one of the most iconic knives in the hobby. Use the search function. There are plenty of threads on the subject.

One is a stolen design made by a company with a very questionable background.

The other is an iconic design by one of the big 3 American knife companies.

No need to get nasty or rude. Acting like children. As I stated, I know nothing about quartermaster and was just looking for information.

thank you for the information and for not being condescending and rude. Didn't know quartermaster was regarded as bad around there.

If you feel that someone saying an objectively crap company is crap is rude or nasty, the internet may not be for you.

How about you go read about all the shady antics they have pulled before telling members who clearly know more about the subject than you they are acting like children.

My impression is that the negative opinion of Quartermaster is related to the owners/management of the company, not necessarily the knives themselves. This is not the first time that we have seen this.

If you're looking for a high quality Chinneese manufactured knife other than Quartermaster AKA QTRM5TR , check out brands like Kizer Cutlery and WE Knife Co.;)

Like he said, he doesn't know anything about QTRmstr Knives, how about providing him some info and let him make his own decision.

I've owned both and no longer own either. I'd pick the PM2 over the Roper but both are good knives, setting aside the company for a second. The Roper is a nice knife but overall, like most other things QTRmstr does its kind of gimmicky. The couple I've had both had good, smooth action, solid lock up and a good in hand feel but the blade is too "tacticool" to be very useful in my opinion. The flipper didn't make that any better either.

The PM2 is an Icon, as stated above. With a large range of handle color and blade steel options you can't go wrong. There is a reason Spyderco keeps producing them and re-releasing them in different handle/blade steel variations. Both the Roper and PM2 seem to hold their value pretty well. I'll definitely pick up another PM2 when the itch comes along, I probably won't buy another Roper but only minimally because of the allegations against them.

Here is a pretty good example of the back and forth so far on the subject:

In what way was telling the truth rude. Sorry if you were offended but they are a lying crap company. Take a minute to look them up on here. Actually, if you thought what Scurvy and I said was rude you may not want to look up those other threads ;)

All opinions. If you don't want opinions, don't come here and ask for opinions.

And to add to that, if all you do is type: quartermaster into the search this forum box at the top right you get all these lovely threads that tell you what you need to know:

And a quote from rev:

Their business has a history of very shady practices and I would not spend any loney on their products. This is well documented here and possibly elsewhere. I prefer to buy items that are advertised honestly. Your Mileage May Vary.

Guess all these people are just acting like nasty children. Oh, and that is just on BFC that I was able to find in 5 seconds of searching. Don't go out to the whole internet and spend real time on researching them, they say even worse things out there!

Again, is it rude to call a crap company crap? Is it condescending to point out the company you are asking about is crap? If you think so, do your own research. Then you don't have to hear our opinions on this crap company
