Quartermaster Officially Busted

There's nothing new under the sun. All the designs one can dream up have been done before.

If what you say is true, no one would design knives, because they'd all be copying somebody.
You are wrong in so many ways. But I highly doubt you are willing to learn so arguing is silly. Keep believing nothing new is under the sun, it is wrong, but keep it up.

What goods do you prefer from overseas aside from knives?

I think most for the most part think overseas products are okay for awhile now, same as and with you, but to get there, need to find out where the good is from. With competition comes fair play.

If your knives are made in China, just say so. It's okay.

It's funny cause you're totally Jared. This so Jared West. Ahhh heh funny.

So what if the parts are machined in China at Chinese rates using say CPM S30Vn and Us made titanium, carbons fiber, etc and then assembled and finished the US? Would that be any less confusing as GM, Ford and Chrysler parts and cars having Canadian content counted as "American?"
The difference is Ford, GM and Chrysler don't deny it or lie about it. That what is the issue with most. We have a lot of people who carry an American knife on principal alone. I'm not one of them. But I don't think those people should be tricked into carrying an imported product. Even if I don't agree with the reasons they do so.

Maybe Dicoria is the place with the high tech spy equipment ,think tanks, and all that other crap QM was spewing in their "about us " page. This is so funny,i need to add this quote from their about us page just 1 last time; The 6-acre complex is under 24 hour surveillance using recently de-classified thermal imaging sensors. The 8,500 square foot facility is home to multiple design studios, think-tanks & a 3,000 sq ft shop floor. However, a medical-grade clean room and a 3 story-high knife museum with a biometric-scanner that allows/disallows access are likely to be considered the highlights of our facility." I don't think the white house has this kind of security...

Hey, I snuck (sneaked? Lol) into quartermaster and took a pic of one of their think tanks.. check it out!

If it didn't matter, then Jared and his accomplices probably wouldn't go to such lengths to pretend their products were Made in the USA. Apparently, the country of manufacture matters enough to Quartermaster's customers that they were willing to build their whole company on a gigantic lie ... and will now bend over backwards to perpetuate that lie.

Just a bit more on country of manufacture. I'm a bass player. Sadowsky Guitars sells their American-made basses in the $5000-6000 range. They also have an import line for $2700 or so.

According to Roger Sadowsky, the import line still gets final assembly, finish, and set-up at the same NYC shop as the American-made versions. By all accounts, the quality of the parts is essentially indistinguishable.

In other words, you're paying literally twice as much to have the parts built from scratch in Queens, New York rather than in Japan. People are obviously willing to pay a premium for "Made in America," especially when it comes to luxury goods.

Is the difference in the finished product worth the extra? I know nothing about musical instruments. Would be interested to know if there is a real value other than patriotism (and expensive patriotism at that)? I bought a Honda Fit (Jazz) recently which was not made in Japan (I knew this when I bought it). I have a hard time believing that if it had been made 'at home' by a company with their reputation, the the level of finish would have been quite so lackadaisical as I've found it. Brake pedal covers are not supposed to fall off mid driving causing me almost to crash neither is the door seal supposed to almost come off in the first month.

If a country has built a reputation for quality and QC, false advertising becomes very disingenuous. That flag on the product costs money to the consumer. They expect to get the value that they have paid extra for.

Who knows? Even if there is a difference, is it a $3000 difference? I couldn't say.

To some extent this is the issue with any luxury goods. If you're a working musician, you can pay $500 for a Mexican-made Fender Jazz Bass and it'll get the job done. Does it ever really "make sense" to buy the custom, handmade version of pretty much the same bass for >$5000 from a boutique builder like Roger Sadowsky? Probably not. Do the intangibles justify the 10x price differential? I suppose they do to the people who buy them.

Getting back to the whole "Made in the USA" thing, I think it makes a difference to people. Customs, mid-techs, and higher-end production knives are all essentially luxury goods. You pay for the intangibles. Pride of ownership is clearly a factor. Even if nothing changed, would people still pay >$400 for a Chris Reeves folder if they moved production to China?

^ Not to forget the supporting of (insert your country here) jobs. Sometimes - if you can - you even rather support the company in your town instead of ordering from web store to keep the "town alive".

Taking advantage of people's emotions to sell them the same product at a higher price? Very smart actually.

Here's jared's personal think tank.. full of quality ideas.

I think you pictured the wrong think tank. the bowl itself would better represent it! Theres 1 other think tank that comes to mind, ill photograph it when my neighbors cesspool gets serviced....

Well, only one part of the throne is called a tank... So upper decker, toilet wrecker think tank.

In case anyone's interested in actually going after Quartermaster and their ridiculous "Made in USA" claim, here's a like to the consumer complaint form for the Texas Attorney General.

There's about zero chance, I'd imagine, of them recovering any expenses for people who bought their knives, but they could put an end to their deceptive marketing if enough people chime in.

quartermaster just stole another design and called it the yoda. Jarad took the Darriel Caston design and made it his own (Darriel Caston designed the Spyderco quarehead).

WHAT A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT. Jared has no sole at all. it still says made in usa and knife center is promoting them @KnifeCenter $$$ is money really that good for you that you have to promote a company that is built on lies and false advertising and stolen designs?
