Queen 2015

This one has excellent fit and finish. Not quite as perfect as most of my GEC's but it's a dang nice knife for sure.

I don't think the Queen 2015 line of Workhorse Barlows No.69 have been discussed in this thread yet?

I just ordered one in delrin with Sheepfoot single. Anybody have first-hand experience with this recent release? Just under 3.5" shut.

Well, nobody responded to my post so I assume nobody has tried them?

The wait just ended and I unwrapped mine an hour or so ago. Frankly, it's remarkable. So far I can find no issues with the knife at all, blade is centre and sharp, no gaps, no play, you can pinch it open but it has decent snap. It is a tough well made work-knife that is also nicely finished. Of course delrin is not bone but this gives it durability, the external pivots might not be to everybodys' taste but they're strong and well finished into the bolster. At less than 40 USD you get an authentic American made Barlow at the right price for everybodys' pocket. I believe they come in Clip too, might be nice if they did jigged Yellow delrin as well. Very worthwhile grass-roots Barlow, Workhorse like it says.

External pivots are great. If you use your knife hard, particularly with torque a slipjoint can get loose, but with the external pivot, a little tap with a hammer on an anvil, and your back to tight again.

I was going to post this pic in What did your knife do thread but this might be a better place.
Got this Queen #69 Barlow in the mail yesterday, took a couple quick pics to show both sides.
No problems at all with walk & talk, spring is flush. Overall finish is good.
It does have the same issue as my walnut Railsplitter one pin is not round.
It was actually sharp enough to use out of the box. Re profiled to 18 per side, with no problem.
I saw some other pics online of Queen Barlows with the same pin issue, I do wish they would work on that issue.

I am waiting for the very same knife now, should be in my hands shortly. Great to know it lives up to the expectations.

brownshoe Good point there, external pivots can be adjusted with no problems. They are of course, often found on European Traditionals notably Italian knives. On this Queen they've been finished very nicely and don't offer rough burrs or unpleasant edges just well domed.

Thanks, Will

I have the Queen Barlow with wallnut handle in my hands now. The picture I borrowed from Dean51 shows quite well how nice the knife is. The action is nice and snappy, I did not realize it has a half-stop which I like. The pull is not overly stiff and the action is smooth. Edge is sharp to begin with, I might touch it up by stropping when I get home. There are no gaps. The spring sits very slightly proud when the blade is open, but this you really have to look hard to notice. Finish is excellent.

So a nice looking, well made knife. Not at the same quality level as GEC I am sure, but well worth the price.

I bought a new Queen Classics Big Trapper in Winterbottom bone last year, and one of the backsprings snapped. The dealer made it right and gave me a new one, but I had a feeling that Queen was not in a rush to do anything about it. The dealer did not say so, but just a feeling I got. After reading through this thread, Queen is off my list for the near (and possibly distant ) future. I ain't no senator's son.....work hard to buy a knife and will not take a chance again with Queen. GEC all the way for me.

Oops. Hopefully that will not happen with my knife.

The Barlow above does have a little problem with the pins. Some of the pins are not round AND I found out that there are little cracks, where the wood has chipped off round those pins. This is not a big problem, but this might be an issue. Again, you must look closely to notice this. Don't know if there is any way to fill those very small cracks, a drop of superglue?

I have both a S&M stag Barlow and the Queen amber stag bone Barlow. The Queen is a bit "gritty" on open/close and both have wavy blades. But, overall they're nice knives. I enjoy them.

Oh. By the way, be carefull with those half stops. They can surprise you. Now where do I have those bandaid's....

Glad you like it with Queen's current wood and bone, pins that aren't round seem to be a regular issue. I don't mind, the knife is a user so it has lost a bit of that new knife shine.
I'm not the biggest fan of half stops, so I've rounded the tang corners just a tiny bit.
Now it opens smoother and easier, yet still retains the half stop. In fact I've grown fond enough of it to add the walnut two blade version to my little collection of users.

I have one of the Queen City Fisherman's Barlows on the way. I hope the quality is up there. I love Queen knives and have some great examples. Their jigged bone is second to none...or was.

Does anyone have any experience with the Kentucky Shiner? I really like the pattern and was wondering if it had a nice strong pull.

Anyone pick up one of the Large Carpenter Whittlers? They have the look and shape of the GEC 57 whittler with clip main, but I think they r a tad bit longer.
