question about handle making

At the risk of preaching to the choir- might want to look around a little on working with exotic woods and affects of breathing in the sanding dust.

Some are nasty.

Seriously though, always a good reminder. It was never a concern way back in woodshop when we mostly played with pine and some oak, its easy to assume that wood is wood and its safe. I never would have considered the issue without the warnings when looking at wood databases.
 
Yep, ipe dust is bad, among the worst. Much skin exposure causes redness and itchiness, breathing it can make you loopy at best, but sick and in pain with possible long term damage if you do it often. Ipe splinters will also be very agitating and extra painful.
