Question for members. Please all respond.

Provided that some of the slight problems that might be incurred are resolved, I think it's a novel idea.

Gawd, you guys never cease to amaze me!

Sounds like a real cool idea Mike.
Looks like I will be spending some cash!

I think quarterly might be a lot easier to handle on your end, and well as easier for more of us to actively participate in,budgetwise. All in all, a fun idea!

Between Mecury and Corduroy lies the path of great wisdom. Huh ?
Really tho, merge the quarterly and narrow choice ideas and it could work and make your
lives a bit easier too.

Sounds good - perhaps QUARTERLY instead of monthly. We have to keep the other dealers in business, too

I tend to think that quarterly would be better for the following reasons.

Logistically it will be easier to support.

It will be less prone to impact the dealers.

Most members would be more able to order knives quarterly over monthly.

PS I think that you could easily support a monthly raffle for custom knives and make a killing to boot. Especially if some of the custom makers who participate and benefit from this forum gave you a price break on the raffle knives. I can easily see myself and several others spending $10.00 to $20.00 a month on a raffle for customs.

There seems to be some debate between "monthly" and "quarterly" (every third month). What about halfway in between these two choices: every other month?

I think that it would be OK, if there is a knife for that month that you want, order it, if not, don't.

This is the best idea I've heard in a long time!

Sounds like fun, but it might be more informative to narrow the criteria a bit so that it's more than just a fashion contest, maybe like ... "what's the most attractive hunting knife for under $100 ?" or "what's the most attractive tactical folder at any price ?", etc., kind of like some of the threads that we've had lately.

Sounds great- but once per quarter would probably be more than enough. The novelty of having a knife/tool "Of The Month" to choose from may grow a bit old- but if these deals came 'round every 3 months, it would build some excitement/interest, plus give those offering these deals some turnaround time.
If, of course you ARE doing the knife of the month" deal, I'll probably be haunting the mailroom here at the office every few weeks...

Well, you did say "all respond" but I'll second some of the ideas that if you are going to try this, then we ought to narrow the categories and do slightly different variations each month.

For example, if we do, e.g., both folders and fixed blades each month, then one month, we could have "folders under $100" and "fixed blade hunters" and then the next month, we might have "defensive folders" and "kitchen/cooking knives" and the month after that have "gentlemen's folders" and "camp knives".

Obviously, these are only a few suggestions, but I think this will need a little more focus than just "folders," "fixed" and "multi-tools." I also think it would be good (in fact necessary

), for our budgets at least, to try to appeal to somewhat different audiences rather than to the same targeted audience, e.g., martial artists, in a single month with "fighting folders" and "bowies" for example.

It sounds like you have run the idea past the dealers and they don't think this would present a problematical competition, so I don't see any reason to object. My main concern is simply with the practical management of the project. One problem is the likelihood of repetition (people's preferences are likely to remain similar from month to month) and I would suggest narrower and varied categories as a reasonable way to generate variety.
